Job Description
Group Accounting and Reporting (“GA&R”) plays a critical role in the financial reporting processes of CPP Investments’ quarterly publication of consolidated financial statements and CPP Investments’ legal entities. In addition to the development and implementation of accounting policy guidelines and accounting policy support of investment initiatives and structures, GA&R is responsible for the certification of internal controls over financial reporting for CPP Investments. GA&R also supports CPP Investments’ Audit Committee to ensure the Board of Directors continues to establish best practice standards of financial governance.
Reporting to the Manager, Group Accounting & Reporting, the Senior Analyst will assist with the preparation of CPP Investments’ financial statements. The role will enhance our current “best in class” reporting to contribute to CPP Investments’ reputation of integrity through transparent disclosure of financial information to management, Board of Directors, and our external stakeholders. Responsibilities include the preparation and coordination of the consolidated CPP Investments financial statements and note disclosures, general ledger close process, implementation of accounting guidelines on new investments and products, and other special projects. In addition, through partnering with various teams across the organization, the role will assist with special projects to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the financial reporting process.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in consolidation and financial statement reporting practices and controls, process improvements, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills, preferably with investment products. This position will collaborate with various teams across CPP Investments including Investment Operations, Valuations, Financial Analysis and Planning, Risk, Tax, and Investment Structure Management to ensure we apply best practices and methodologies in financial reporting.
Role-Specific Accountabilities:
Prepare and coordinate the quarterly and annual publicly issued consolidated financial statements, including the financial statement note disclosures in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”), and Audit Committee presentation materials, as needed. Work closely with various departments that impact or contribute to the timely and accurate production of financial statements, to review and analyze supporting schedules and seek ways to improve current reporting efficiency and accuracy. Coordinate with the external auditors in the quarterly financial statement reviews and annual audit. Work with Accounting Policy and various other stakeholders across the organizations to assist with the implementation of new investment products, including reflecting the appropriate changes to the financial statement disclosures and presentation. Support process improvement initiatives to standardize and automate financial statements preparation and reporting processes. Perform tasks associated with the monthly general ledger close process, including working with upstream and downstream stakeholders for timely and accurate reporting. Develop and maintain proper documentation of financial reporting processes and controls including workflows, source of information, frequency, and purpose of the processes. Support special projects, cross-functional initiatives, and/or ad hoc reporting, as assigned.
Qualifications
A professional accounting designation (, CA/CPA), working toward a professional designation such as a CFA is an asset. 3 to 5 years experience in financial reporting; minimum 2-3 years experience in investment management, pension fund or financial services industry. Excellent understanding of IFRS and the ability to quickly grasp internal controls over financial reporting. Demonstrated strong communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, ability to foster effective working relationships internally across the organization and externally. Excellent analytical skills with high accuracy and attention to detail. Demonstrated strong time management and prioritization skills, extremely well organized. Demonstrated ability to succeed in a high-performing culture; open to, and comfortable with working in a dynamic, complex, and fast-paced environment with constantly evolving and changing priorities and challenges. Self-motivated, proactively taking ownership and responsibility. Experience with automation tools preferred Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Office applications; and Exemplifies our Guiding Principles of Integrity, Partnership and High Performance.
