About the Role

As the Director of Product Development, you will play a critical role in driving continued growth and success of the companies SaaS products at DDS Wireless International. Reporting to the CEO and leading a talented team of software developers and engineers, the Director of Product Development will be responsible carrying out the goals, policies, and objectives to optimize operations and oversee overarching technology strategies, define the product vision, set guidelines, and steer the roadmap and planning process for the companies’ product development activities. Along with coordinating senior technical professionals, this position will provide leadership, coaching and mentorship to the developers that inspires innovation, collaboration, and execution. This position liaises with internal and external stakeholders to guide product investments for delivering current and future best in class solutions engineering solutions. This position works collaboratively with Marketing, Sales, and Customer Experience business units to ensure strong go-to market delivery and adoption of the service offerings available to the market, as well as, ensuring that our products meet customer needs, industry and quality standards, and business objectives while overseeing the entire product development process from concept ideation to launch. 

Responsibilities

Lead and inspire a team of software developers, designers, quality assurance testers and other professionals involved in the product development process; encourages each team member's personal and professional development, mentor, train and build them into an effective and cohesive scrum.Foster an environment of innovation and creativity to generate new product ideas and concepts.Develop and implement a product development strategy that aligns with the company’s overall strategic goals and aligns with the vision.Develop a deep understanding of industry, customer needs and underlying business problems by interviewing customers, analyzing target user groups, and effectively breaking down problems to conduct research and inform product development decisions.Define, create and maintain DDS’ overall product roadmaps based on customer insights, market trends, and business potential product development roadmap timelines and priorities.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather insights, prioritize features and ensure successful product delivery.Cultivate strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and customers.Identify risk, expose, and validate assumptions.Recommend controls by identifying problems and writing improved procedures.Maintain user and customer confidence by protecting confidential information.Adeptly handle and adjust to changing priorities.Drive the product development process from ideation, design, development, testing and ensure successful product delivery.Conduct or acquire cost analysis for development projects; prepare or delegate preparation of schedule of project completion dates.Oversee the product design process, including user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design.Ensure the product meets high-quality standards and is thoroughly tested for functionality and reliability.Plan and execute product launches and partner with the marketing and sales teams to develop strategies for product launch and execute on the plans.Gather and analyze customer feedback to iterate on products and make continuous improvements.Ensure products meet any relevant regulatory and compliance standards in the industry.Define and monitor performance metrics, OKRs and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure product success and iterate based on data and feedback.Work to establish a Development/Operations partnership that can move the products and company into the modern era of SaaS approaches.Stay up-to-date with industry trends, competitor offerings, and emerging technologies and trends in engineering and development related to the organization’s industry.Manage the product development budget and resources effectively; ensure that projects are completed within budget and in an economical manner.

Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field; MBA or Master’s Degree in relevant Engineering discipline is preferred.Minimum 10 years of experience in Product Development, including a 5+ year proven track record of leading and managing high-performing technical product development teams in an agile development environment.Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) for SaaS products.Familiarity with Agile methodologies and development frameworks (e.g. Scrum).Experience in defining the roadmap for SaaS products & mobile applications.Experience in cloud-based technologies and infrastructure (e.g. AWS).Solid understanding of software development best practices (clean code, testing, version control).Knowledge of relevant technical trends and their potential impact on product development.Strong leadership and team management skills working with many stakeholders to influence operations and effect change without being confrontational.Strong communication and collaboration skills to foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.Ability to motivate and inspire teams to deliver high-quality products on time and within budget.Extremely organized; effectively establish clear priorities and meet timelines and milestones.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (engineering, marketing, sales, customer success).A deep understanding of market research, product design, and development methodologies.Advanced presentation skills to a large variety of internal and external B2B audiences.Experience with project management tools and software; PM certification and/or education is an asset.

Working At DDS

This is an on-site position working five days physically in our Vancouver office and then may transition to a hybrid arrangement of 1 or 2 days remote.

The range for this position is $150,000.00 to $180,000.00 CAD.
