Responsibilities The position will adhere to standards of The Salvation Army best practices, as well as the Regional Municipality of York’s Core Standards. WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a temporary full-time position working 30 hours per week for 9 weeks. Social Services Aide staff members work onsite at Homes Now. Social Services Aide staff members work within the facility. building, and outside of the building.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Submit as required a Police Record Check (vulnerable sector check) that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion. This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria: aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and, holds a valid Social Insurance Number; and, be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. *International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: College diploma or equivalent post-secondary formal study related to social and/or women related services work. Bachelor of Social Work or currently enrolled in a program, is preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

Experience working with homelessness. Functional knowledge and understanding of women issues related to homelessness, mental health and addictions. Thorough knowledge and understanding of and a commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and equity. Good knowledge of community resources.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

The responsibilities associated with this position demand a high degree of confidentiality. Strong oral and written communication skills are Computer skills are essential. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Must have good interpersonal/time management skills. Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and a current copy of a Driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening. Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
