JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dynamic, strategic and results- professional to join our Fuel Handling team in the role of Technical Engineer/Officer located in Bowmanville, Ontario.

The Technical Engineer/Officer will play a crucial role in the Fuel Handling Engineering team, serving as a key technical resource throughout the lifecycle of various projects, from conception through to commissioning. This position involves actively participating in the planning, design, implementation, and final testing phases of capital projects within fuel handling systems. The engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Project Management, to ensure seamless integration and optimization of processes. By offering expert analysis and technical support, the engineer will identify improvements and troubleshoot issues. This ensures that each project aligns with its technical specifications and operational requirements, contributing to the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our energy systems.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical experts to support and enhance the functionality of fuel handling systems through strategic project initiatives; Serve as a technical representative in the design, development, and implementation of projects, ensuring compliance with stringent industry regulations; Document and update project methodologies and processes, ensuring they accurately reflect the latest advancements and integrations within fuel handling systems; Manage project specifications, oversee necessary technical adjustments, and coordinate collaborative efforts across multiple major project areas; Maintain and revise operational and department-specific procedures to support project execution and ensure adherence to regulatory standards; Address and resolve technical issues, provide strategic advice, and lead developmental studies to foster improvements during the design, commissioning, and operation phases of projects; conduct thorough evaluations and economic assessments to enhance project outcomes and operational efficiency.

EDUCATION

University Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; preferably Chemical or Mechanical Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of 2 years related, post-graduate work experience Ideal candidates will have worked in a Nuclear Engineering environment (asset). Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups in order to facilitate objectives and ensure deliverables satisfy stakeholder requirements; Strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations; Have a strong interest in fast-paced, challenging work environments where showing initiative and self motivation are assets; Strong interpersonal skills to work with maintenance and operation teams in technical support capacity; Proven track record on delivering results; Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision.
