The Opportunity:

The Program Specialist is responsible for theenhancement of quality of life in Red Deer by facilitating and deliveringrecreation community programs and services, in collaboration with citizens andcommunity organizations.

This position will have a specific portfolio assignedwhich may result in specific facility related responsibilities depending on thefacility to which the position is assigned. (Recreation Centre, Dawe Centre,Michener Centre or Collicutt Centre)

As our preferred candidate, youwill have:

University undergraduate degree with majorconcentration in recreation or physical education, arts, culture or communitydevelopment plus two years relevant professional recreation, parks or cultureexperience.  OR
Diploma in recreation, physical education, arts,culture or community development from a post-secondary institute plus fouryears relevant recreation, parks or culture experience. Current qualifications are required in IntermediateFirst Aid, National Lifeguard Certification Lifesaving Swim InstructorCertification and Lifesaving Instructor Certification. (For Collicutt Centre –NL Water Park Option) Current qualifications are desirable in eitherNational Lifeguard Instructor Certification (For Collicutt Centre – NLInstructor Water Park Option) or Lifesaving Swim Trainer Certification. Sound knowledge of the philosophies, principles andpractices of public leisure services. Strong organizational skills and functions effectivelyin a fast-paced challenging environment. Strong background in recreation, parks and culturedevelopment, community engagement and facilitation. Works with an effective, proactive and creativeapproach in the design, development and execution of strategies andimplementation plans. Demonstrates highly developed partnership and alliancebuilding skills. Works independently or as part of a team. Demonstrates excellent verbal, written andpresentation skills. Demonstrated ability to engage in continuous learningand on-the-job training. Ability to manage performance, coach and guide staffand/or volunteers.

Remuneration:

$45.18 to $47.56 per hour.

Hours of Work:

40 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday. Evening andweekend work will be required as programs, special events and staff training arerequired.
