We’re looking for a Sound Designer


Frequency Podcast Network is looking for someone who is excited to push boundaries in a fresh medium and create compelling digital audio content for Canadians—and the rest of the world. The successful candidate will have experience editing, mixing and mastering audio, digital storytelling and a passion for the podcast medium. This job includes working on multiple podcasts projects to deadline and being the last line of quality control on Frequency podcasts before the world hears them.


Frequency Podcast Network is the home of Rogers Sports and Media podcasts. With several exciting new projects currently in development, the successful candidate will come ready to step behind the boards and start producing audio immediately, while also helping to generate new ideas and fresh ways of executing journalism and storytelling in the podcast format.


What you will do: 

  • Edit host narration and interview clips, sourced and original audio, music and sound effects with the direction of the Showrunner and Producer on podcast introductions.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the production team to ensure that each show’s mandate and values is reflected in the overall audio product represented by the show.
  • Record, mix, and EQ audio throughout episodes and interviews, ensuring excellent consistency and audio quality throughout.
  • Participate in feedback sessions with hosts, independent podcast partners, clients and the FPN editorial team.
  • Ensure timely delivery on tight deadlines, including revisions and multiple versions.
  • This role works onsite in our office 3 days per week.


 

What you will bring:

  • Experience working in audio for podcast, broadcast, feature or documentary film, scripted or episodic television.
  • Demonstrated experience in audio recording, editing and restoration.
  • Strong audio storytelling skills, including mixing voice and music, using sourced and original audio to create scenes.
  • Firm grasp of audio engineering fundamentals for studio recording.
  • Knowledge of audio libraries, file management; proficient in navigating music libraries such as APM and Universal.
  • Expert user of digital recording and editing systems. We use Adobe Audition, but are also looking for people with experience using Pro Tools or other comparable products.
  • Knowledge of music a plus (production, composition, or as a musician) but not necessary.
  • Must be an effective communicator, and an excellent collaborator, who is able and willing to give and get feedback and translate that into an even better show.
  • Strong self-management, organizational and problem solving skills, ability to work independently while having a great team player attitude.
  • Flexibility to work hours matching the production scheduling needs, based on deadlines, multiple time zones etc.
