The Clinical Research Department Cancer Medical Imaging Core Lab at the British Columbia Cancer (Vancouver, BC) has an immediate opening for a Post-doctoral/Research fellow in Cancer). The Clinical Research - Cancer Medical Imaging Core Lab specializes in quantitative analysis of oncology images to extract valuable information from medical images to better meet the demands of state-of-the-art clinical research/trials and facilitate clinical translation of the research. Our lab pursues clinically meaningful research projects to fuel the discovery of “digital” biomarkers, the exploration of quantitative imaging methodologies that can predict treatment response, and the development of practical imaging tools to assist precision and personalized oncology. Our research includes, medical image reviewing/interpretation, quantitative analysis of various imaging modalities, applying artificial intelligence tools to imaging data, and correlating with clinical outcomes in different cancer types and disease and treatment-related conditions.
We are seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral/research fellow to join our team and lead the efforts to discover the “digital” biomarkers that can help predict clinical outcomes in oncology. The selected candidate will benefit from an excellent academic community, a collaborative research environment, and close interaction with the clinical teams. This position offers an excellent opportunity for interaction in a multidisciplinary environment at the interface between radiology, oncology, medical physics, fundamental science and image-analysis founders.
Preference will be given to applicants with a proven track record in clinical radiology research. This is a fully funded 2-year position with opportunities for renewal. The proposed starting date is Oct 1st, 2024 (flexible).
Qualifications and Experience
PhD or MD-PhD in radiology/medical imaging field (Medical Degree and/or PhD can be from any country), or with equivalent training in reading medical imaging while not specialized in radiology/medicine. Individuals without formal clinical training, while having prior extensive working/research experience with clinical medical imaging (primarily CT and MRI), are considered. Highly desirable skills: Experience with reading and interpreting medical imaging (primarily CT and MRI) in humans. Background knowledge of quantitative image analysis, Artificial intelligence/Machine learning/Deep Learning and radiomics. Prior experience with image analysis software/programs would be desirable Basic understanding of role of imaging in cancer diagnosis and treatment, and common clinical outcomes in cancer patients. Efficient English language skills for communication, scientific writing, and presentation. Basic knowledge of statistics and analytical capabilities.Key Responsibilities
Work with core lab leads and clinical teams to develop research hypotheses and design studies. Plan and execute experimental work with minimal supervision. Review, interpret imaging and annotate targets for quantitative analysis as per different projects under the supervision/guidance of a radiologist. Organize, analyze (with support from other professionals), and present data as required for group discussions and publication. Maintain close interactions with core lab members, trainees and external collaborators. Contribute to the training of new lab members. Contribute to developing and implementing new methodologies in the Core Lab. Conduct manuscript writing and grant/fellowship applications.You have:
