The Northumberland Aquatic Club (NORAC) is seeking a Head Coach
NORAC is a Not-for-Profit pre-competitive and competitive swim club located in beautiful Northumberland County, training out of the Jack Burger Sports Complex, a 6 lane, 25m recently renovated facility in Port Hope, Ontario. Our club encourages and invests in our coach to develop their skills and qualifications, both in the water and on land. We have a highly supportive member volunteer board, with great dynamics among our current swimmer groups. We currently have almost 60 swimmers in our pre-competitive and competitive groups, another 65 swim school swimmers and a small non-competitive Masters group that collectively span approximately 25 hours of pool training time per week, and incremental dryland time. We are a small club with a huge heart, seeking a like-minded head coach to grow and develop the club and its swimmers.
Position Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic individual with a passion for coaching, who will enable swimmers of all development levels to reach their highest potential, while fostering a fun, inclusive and supportive team dynamic.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and continually monitor a comprehensive seasonal training programs for competitive swimmers, matched to their group level, skills, and goals.
Design and lead effective swim practices that deliver upon the seasonal training program goals for group levels and individual swimmers, through focus on modern knowledge of swimming technique, inspiring the best of each swimmer.
Coordinate and attend competitions, motivating swimmers to prepare for, execute and learn from their co-developed race strategies and goals.
Collaborate with and engage in effective and proactive communications with the swimmers, parents/guardians, Board, assistant coaches, instructors, facilities management, and volunteers to ensure the overall success of the club.
Supervise and support assistant coaches, instructors, and volunteers to ensure swim programs and team philosophy come to fruition.
Execute administrative duties such as pool schedule setup and changes, meet scheduling and entries, attend monthly Board meetings, and other duties as necessary.
Commit to the full swim season, September through June or early July, and be comfortable scheduling personal vacation time in the club’s offseason periods.
Retain and attract new swimmers including fostering the pre-competitive and early competitive programs as fun and effective swim environments, encouraging development and progression into the competitive levels.
Be a wonderful human and leader, serving as a role model and motivator to inspire the best of swimmers both in and out of the pool.
Qualifications & Skills
Swimming certified (NCCP Level 1) minimum, with preference for higher training and certification.
Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Must pass all appropriate & required background checks and Safe Sport Certification.
NLS & Standard First Aid.
Experience as a Provincial level or higher competitive swimmer.
Experience coaching competitive swimming.
Experience and knowledge of creating periodized seasonal training plans.
Excellent knowledge of stroke techniques and competitive swimming mechanics.
Excellent communication and organization skills, with the ability to resolve conflict effectively.
Certifications in dryland training in support of an effective swim program are considered an asset.
Remuneration
Salary starting at $55,+, commensurate with experience and qualifications, with a bonus opportunity contingent on meeting retention and increased membership attraction, and performance targets.
We support professional development, and provide swim travel expense reimbursement, per diem.
