About the role

Location: ALS Geochemistry, Sudbury

Reports to: Branch Manager

About the Position:

This role will consist primarily of performing repairs and maintenance to the building and operational equipment. This position requires flexibility as the candidate may be responsible for working on short notice due to equipment failure during non-working hours.

Specific Responsibilities

Routine maintenance and repairs on equipment such as heating and A/C units, blowers, and scrubbers – remove and replace as required or send for servicing; General building maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, ceiling tiles and painting; General preparation; equipment maintenance and repair; Plumbing and carpentry work; General grounds keeping duties; Locate and install new equipment; Basic electrical (non-certified); Parts fabrication; Supply shopping; Spare Parts Storage; Keep service area clean & organized; Maintain and organize all tools; Repair bins as required if time permits; Must be available for emergency call-ins during non-working hours if required; Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned by Branch Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong mechanical aptitude; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Strong command of the English language; Strong interpersonal skills; Excellent problem-solving skills; Ability to work under general supervision; Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;

Required Qualifications

Some experience in general building repairs and operations is preferred; Experience working with plumbing, electrical carpentry, drywall and/or painting will be an asset; Experience maintaining sample prep equipment an asset; Forklift certificate or experience will be considered an asset.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; Extensive walking or movement, bending, kneeling, and working with machines; Comfortable in environments with high noise levels; Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks. Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
