MU100 - Music and its Contexts (Fall 2024)

Position Summary :

An introduction to music in social and cultural contexts using the lenses of gender, ethnicity, race, and ideology. Music from a variety of Western and non-Western traditions, including classical and popular is explored. The course will also address the functions and uses of music, including, as entertainment, for dance, for ritual, and in film and video game music. Special attention will be given to writing about music, using the Chicago Manual of Style.

Qualifications – Required: Ph.D. in musicology or ethnomusicology. Demonstrated expertise in teaching a variety of musical genres and traditions.

Qualifications – Asset: Expertise in either dance, image, and/or traditions outside Europe.

Salary: $9,206.40
