As an experienced Mechanical Estimator working in the Preconstruction team at Pomerleau Construction, you will support new and ongoing project growth and challenge industry standards with your trade-driven expertise and knowledge. Working on large-scale building and infrastructure projects – ranging from $ million to upwards of $1 billion – you will work closely with our proposals team and various client groups to secure bids and ensure project success

What You Will Do

Jump in and collaboratively complete the full-cycle bid process. Collaborate, collaborate, collaborate Share your mechanical expertise when working with team members, trade partners, consultants and clients. Actively complete full quantity take-offs to ensure accuracy of contract specifications and pricing. Perform a quantitative evaluation of materials and manpower required for the work deemed decisive and verify the quantities given by the estimators. Prepare the summary of quantities according to the plans and specs and by sorting them according to the standardized sections and functions of the trades involved. Utilize your research skills to work with and update historical data like purchase orders and analysis reports to help summarize reports for future estimates. With an eye for detail, accurately interpret technical specifications for bid documents. Grow and maintain strong relationships with trade partners, consultants and clients to achieve the project goals and vision. Act as a role model and mentor for your junior team members, providing coaching and guidance on best practices and trade secrets.

This role could be for you if you have

5+ years of relevant M&E estimating experience, along with a University Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education and industry experience. Proven ability to interpret mechanical drawings and contract documents, and strong computer skills with estimation software. Solid written and verbal communication skills, coupled with a passion for building relationships. Previous experience leading and mentoring junior team members. Knowledge of the Ottawa/Gatineau market and the ability to work throughout the National Capital Region. MUST be able to obtain a Government of Canada Secret level clearance as per project contractual requirements.

Bilingual in both official Canadian languages, English and French.
