Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Student Centre (ISC), the Indigenous Outreach & Events Coordinator provides outreach to Indigenous OCAD University (OCAD U) students, staff and faculty, and the Indigenous community. The Coordinator organizes and promotes social, cultural, curricular, and co-curricular programming, events, projects, and opportunities both on campus and in the community to enhance Indigenous students’ experience. The Coordinator maintains ISC online and internal communications, planning and coordinating of programs and events along with supporting the OCAD U Indigenous Alumni Circle. Working in collaboration with internal and external partners, the Coordinator develops relationships between Indigenous OCAD U, Indigenous alumni, community partners and organizations to support community building and create opportunities for Indigenous OCAD U students.

Summary of Responsibilities :

In collaboration with ISC staff, develop, coordinate, and support weekly programming, workshops and events supporting Indigenous students’ academic, social, cultural and emotional wellbeing Maintainproactivecommunications with Indigenous OCAD U (students, staff, faculty), internal partners, and Indigenous community partners; manage and distribute the ISC weekly newsletter Design communications and promotional materials for announcements, programming, and events; manage the ISC social media accounts and department website to ensure access to accurate, timely, and relevant information Deliver internal outreach to raise awareness of the services, supports, and resources available to Indigenous OCAD U students through the Indigenous Student Centre Assist in identifying and promoting internal and external bursaries for Indigenous OCAD U current and prospective students Coordinate annual events including orientation and welcome events for new students, the Indigenous graduate reception at convocation, and represent the Indigenous Student Centre at University events Provide support to the Indigenous Student Association (ISA) as needed, assisting with the coordination and promotion of ISA programming and events Build relationships with internal partners to collaborate onprojects and programsthatsupportIndigenousstudents’ curricular and extracurricular needs, including Indigenous OCAD U faculty, Indigenous Visual Culture Program, Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers (CEAD), International Programs & Collaboration Office, Campus Life, Alumni Relations, and Admissions & Recruitment Collaborate with the Coordinator, Indigenous Admissions & Recruitment Support in coordinating visits from prospective students, schools, and groups Work in consultation with Alumni Relations to provide outreach and support for the OCAD U Indigenous Alumni Circle; developing a network of Indigenous creatives, connecting them with current and prospective Indigenous OCAD U students to support their creative and professional development Work with the CEAD to support outreach and promotion of experiential learning, career development and creative entrepreneurship pathways for Indigenous students and recent graduates Support CEAD in assessing proposals for Indigenous students, partnerships between organizations, community agencies and OCAD U; involve Indigenous faculty and staff, as needed, in creating beneficial opportunities for Indigenous students Collaborate with CEAD in developing programming and events to engage Indigenous alumni with current and prospective Indigenous students for mentorship, support and career development Coordinate outreach to Indigenous OCAD U alumni, faculty, Indigenous Education Council, Indigenous employers and community organizations to initiate professional and career opportunities Support the ISC in initiating relationships with Indigenous communities in the GTA and surrounding area to develop opportunities, including cultural and land based learning opportunities for Indigenous students Assist the Manager, Indigenous Student Centre in related functions contributing to the successful operations of the Centre

Qualifications :

Indigenous citizenship (First Nations, Métis, Inuit), connection to an Indigenous community, lived experience and an understanding of the Indigenous culture(s) and practices Experience with the administration of Indigenous community programming, education and arts Understanding of Indigenous cultural, educational, political and economic conditions Post-secondary degree or equivalent, with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience working in a post-secondary environment considered an asset A demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service in a diverse environment  Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and strong self-management skills  Demonstrated professionalism, and the ability to exercise tact, good judgment and diplomacy  Strong working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, and experience working with databases  Demonstrated attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to juggle competing demands, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines  Demonstrated ability to take initiative and be an active contributor in the planning, formulation and implementation of student-centered services  Proven ability to work independently and participate collaboratively in a team environment  Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty  Flexibility in work hours; must be willing and able to work occasional evenings, as required

Compensation: OPSEU Unit I, Appendix A, Grade A4; $57,486.45 to $75,566.13 per annum

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, for a total of 35 hours per week.
