QUEL EST LE TRAVAIL?
Relevant directement du Directeur de district - Foresterie, le poste de Superviseur-e en travaux de maitrise de la végétation et d’éducation de peuplement effectue la gestion quotidienne et administrative d’équipes de maitrise de la végétation et d’éducation de peuplement et assume la responsabilité de la performance générale du projet, y compris la gestion du personnel, la qualité du service et la Santé et Sécurité au Travail (SST). La personne titulaire du poste supervise les opérations des travailleurs, tout en maintenant de saines relations avec les représentants du client sur les sites. La personne titulaire du poste est responsable de s'assurer que les opérations se déroulent en toute sécurité, dans les limites du budget et en conformité avec le contrat, les politiques et procédures de l'entreprise, ainsi que la législation et les exigences en matière de main-d'œuvre.
- Superviser les opérations quotidiennes et encadrer les équipes présentes sur le terrain et les assister dans leurs fonctions au besoin;
- Effectuer, réviser et/ou approuver la logistique et l’administration quotidienne et hebdomadaire des activités du site (rapports, horaire, paie, transports);
- Visiter et inspecter les lieux de travail à l’avance pour planifier le travail et la logistique;
- Équilibrer les besoins liés à la production avec les critères de qualité requis;
- Assister à l’embauche des membres de l’équipe, assurer la formation des travailleurs et communiquer les méthodes de travail;
- Coordonner le transport des travailleurs vers et entre les lieux de travail de façon efficace et équitable
- Planifier la logistique et coordonner le transport de l'équipement nécessaire aux opérations par tout moyen de transport disponible;
- Fournir tous les outils nécessaires aux équipes pour qu’ils puissent effectuer leur travail adéquatement (cartes des secteur, prescription avec les bonnes essences d’arbres, GPS, etc.);
- Assurer la conformité à toutes les exigences applicables en matière de contrôle de la qualité et d'assurance de la qualité en effectuant des inspections et visites quotidiennes;
- Veiller au respect des budgets alloués pour le projet et les contrats sous votre responsabilité;
- Assurer que l’entretien et la réparation de véhicules ou d’équipements mis à la disposition des équipes de travail soient effectuées au temps opportun;
- Entretenir les relations quotidiennes avec les représentants du Client sur le projet, avec votre technicien forestier attitré et avec les représentants du Ministère des Ressources Naturelles et s’adapter à leurs critères et demandes;
- Au besoin, agir en tant qu'intermédiaire entre la Compagnie et les acteurs impliqués, sur certaines questions liées au projet ;
WHAT'S THE JOB?
Reporting directly to the District Director - Forestry, the position of Supervisor in Vegetation Control and Stand Education Exercises the day-to-day and administrative management of vegetation control and stand education teams and assumes responsibility for the overall performance of the project, including personnel management, quality of service and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). The incumbent oversees worker operations, while maintaining healthy relationships with customer representatives on site. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that operations run safely, within budget, and in compliance with the contract, company policies and procedures, and legislation and labor requirements.
- Supervise day-to-day operations and mentor and assist field teams as required;
- Perform, review and/or approve the logistics and daily and weekly administration of the site's activities (reports, schedule, payroll, transportation);
- Visit and inspect workplaces in advance to plan work and logistics;
- Balance production-related needs with required quality criteria;
- Assist in the hiring of team members, provide training for workers and communicate work methods;
- Coordinate the transportation of workers to and between workplaces efficiently and equitably
- Plan logistics and coordinate the transportation of equipment required for operations by any available means of transportation;
- Provide all the necessary tools to the teams so that they can perform their work properly (sector maps, prescription with the right tree species, GPS, etc.);
- Ensure compliance with all applicable quality control and quality assurance requirements by conducting daily inspections and visits;
- Ensure compliance with the budgets allocated for the project and the contracts under your responsibility;
- Ensure that the maintenance and repair of vehicles or equipment made available to work teams is carried out in a timely manner;
- Maintain daily relations with the Client's representatives on the project, with your assigned forestry technician and with the representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and adapt to their criteria and requests;
- If necessary, act as an intermediary between the Company and the actors involved, on certain issues related to the project;
- Contribute to the identification of project risks, problems and challenges as early as possible; ensure that mitigation or corrective measures are in place to minimize impact;
- Ensure the implementation and monitoring of Outland's occupational health and safety policies and procedures in the field and with work teams, in conjunction with Outland's OHS coordinator or preventionist;
- Ensure compliance with environmental standards by using documents related to certification (BNQ) and ensure the cleanliness of the workplace;
- Ensure that all company policies and procedures are followed throughout the duration of the project;
- Effectively communicate project expectations to team members, the Forestry Engineer, the District Director and other stakeholders in a timely, professional and continuous manner;
- Provide weekly reports on performance and schedule status as well as any other relevant documentation on a regular basis;
- Ensure that all documents related to our certifications are completed, revised, signed and provided on time;
- Communicate and collaborate with the Forest Engineer and District Manager on best practices, lessons learned and obtain customer feedback;
- Any other duties as required.
Qualifications
QUI RECHERCHONS-NOUS?
- Connaissance approfondie des critères particuliers aux projets ainsi qu’aux normes du Ministère des Ressources Naturelles;
- Familiarité avec les opérations supportées par hélicoptère (incluant la manipulation de l'élingue et de charges suspendues sous l'hélicoptère en vol) et la coordination logistique qu'elle comporte;
- Au moins deux années d’expérience d’équipes de travail forestières en milieu isolé;
- Le bilinguisme est un atout important;
- Détenir au minimum un DEP en aménagement de la forêt ou l’équivalent;
- Détenir un permis de conduite valide avec la classe appropriée (4B,5);
- Posséder une certification d’opération de scie mécanique et être en mesure d’abattre des arbres dangereux le long des lignes hydroélectriques;
- Maîtrise de l'informatique et des outils technologiques spécialisés nécessaire pour effectuer le travail;
- Habiter ou être prêt à déménager en Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
Conditions de travail
- Horaire de travail variable selon les saisons et demandes dans un environnement isolé en forêt;
- Déplacements fréquents;
- Il est parfois requis d'utiliser un équipement de protection individuelle pour éviter l'exposition à des matières ou situations dangereuses;
- Formation, si nécessaire, aux protocoles et procédures de santé-sécurité et d'exploitation requis pour travailler dans divers environnements;
- L'environnement physique de travail en forêt avec accès difficile et conditions variables (terrain, météo, faune) exige que la personne titulaire travaille à la fois à l'intérieur et à l'extérieur dans des conditions chaudes/froides, humides/arides;
- Avoir une bonne forme physique et une capacité à naviguer en terrain accidenté, difficile d’accès et sous des conditions météorologiques changeantes rapidement;

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- In-depth knowledge of the project-specific criteria as well as the standards of the Ministry of Natural Resources;
- Familiarity with helicopter operations (including handling of the sling and suspended loads under the helicopter in flight) and the logistical coordination involved;
- At least two years of experience working in forestry work teams in isolated areas;
- Bilingualism is a strong asset;
- Hold at least a DEP in forest management or equivalent;
- Hold a valid driver's license with the appropriate class (4B,5);
- Have a power saw operation certification and be able to cut down dangerous trees along hydroelectric lines;
- Proficiency in computer and specialized technological tools required to perform the work;
Working Conditions
- Variable work schedule according to the seasons and requests in an isolated environment in the forest;
- Frequent travel;
- Personal protective equipment may be required to avoid exposure to hazardous materials or situations;
- Training, as required, in the health, safety and operational protocols and procedures required to work in a variety of environments;
- The physical working environment in the forest with difficult access and variable conditions (terrain, weather, wildlife) requires the incumbent to work both indoors and outdoors in hot/cold, humid/arid conditions;
