Senior Planner

Our client in Cambridge is seeking a Senior Planner to oversee and review development applications, prepare detailed reports and legal documents, and offer expert planning advice and recommendations to stakeholders and interested parties.

The ideal candidate will work from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, in a hybrid setting with occasional evening hours as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages diverse development applications, including Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments, Plans of Subdivision, Condominiums, MESP’s, and Site Plans.
  • Reviews applications for completeness, identifies issues, and prepares recommendation reports to Committees and Council, ensuring compliance with planning practices.
  • Coordinates stakeholder input and resolves conflicts for complex proposals.
  • Ensures completion of all notices for new applications, including those for statutory public meetings.
  • Interprets planning legislation and prepares detailed appraisals, including addressing diverse issues from other departments and agencies.
  • Drafts Official Plan and Zoning Amendments by-laws, subdivision agreements, and other legal documents for adoption by Council.
  • Provides planning advice to staff, Council, applicants, and stakeholders.
  • Attends various Committee meetings, makes presentations to Committees, BIA’s, Council, neighborhood meetings, and special interest groups.
  • Participates in policy projects and serves as a liaison between departments, agencies, and consultants.
  • Provides backup support to the Manager of Development Planning.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Must have an undergraduate degree - four years or equivalent in Planning or similar.
  • Four to six years of progressive planning experience.
  • Expertise in Urban Design preferred.
  • Current memberships in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute is required,
  • Must be a Registered Professional Planner
  • Must have a valid Drivers’ License.
  • Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training certificate from the Ministry of Labour. (maybe obtained post-offer)
