The Opportunity

The Canada Land Operations Services team is seeking a motivated Regional Land Representative who has the skills and drive to support TC Energy business units with day-to-day coordination and management of operational and regional land matters. 

The Regional Land Representative will play a key role in the cultivation of landowner and key stakeholder relationships, the acquisition and maintenance of land rights, and the effective implementation of the Canada Land Program in the field. The Regional Land Representative will work with internal and external parties in providing land and public awareness support on behalf of TC Energy.

Reporting to the Manager, Land Operations Services in Calgary, AB, this position is to be based in Prince George, British Columbia , supporting Coastal GasLink and NE BC TC Energy operations regions. Extensive vehicle travel and occasional stays away from home may be required to service the area of responsibility.

What you'll do

Engage with landowners and key stakeholders regularly and respond to inquiries and interests in a prompt and consistent manner

Provide land-related support to TC Energy’s Business Units

Develop strategies for mitigating risk, resolve contentious issues and escalate appropriately

Support budgeting, resourcing, and coordination of work

Provide field support to TC Energy’s Public Awareness and Community Relations programs, and give presentations on occasion

Negotiate effectively with stakeholders, including residential and rural landowners, registered tenure holders, forestry, developers, municipalities, to acquire new and/or maintain existing land rights

Support ongoing relationships with Indigenous communities

Operational Access Coordination to Lands where applicable, including relationship management with Road Use Agreement holders, primarily Forestry, to support operational access as required, in support of Regional Operations activities. This may include: ,

Collaboratively engage with colleagues and internal stakeholders, balancing multiple competing priorities

Assess and settle damage claims related to our operations

Assist with the reporting and the resolution of Unauthorized Activities and encroachments

Identify risks, provide advice, and/or resolve land issues, claims, arbitrations, and legal actions

Ensure accurate and timely completion of required documentation

Actively participate in Land strategy and process improvement initiatives

Provide oversight and guidance to contract Land Brokers

Participate in and support TC Energy’s Emergency Response activities, as required.


Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of 6 years of related industry experience

University degree or college diploma preferred in a related discipline (an equivalent combination of experience and post-secondary education may be considered)

Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe driving record

 
Preferred Qualifications 

Excellent written and spoken communication skills

Effective interpersonal skills and ability to participate in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment

Strong knowledge of land principles and practices for the Canadian energy industry

Good understanding of agricultural practices and techniques

Strong understanding of urbanization concepts and regulations governing development activity near pipelines

Working knowledge of the British Columbia Energy Regulator (BCER), Ministry of Forests (MoF) and Worksafe BC Regulations and industry best practices

Working knowledge of the Canada Energy Regulator’s Damage Prevention Regulations and industry best practices

Sound analytical and interpretive skills with an aptitude for resolving issues

Proven experience working with landowners and the ability to lead negotiations

Service-focused with an interest in efficient and accurate delivery of results

Proficiency with computer applications such as the Microsoft Office suite and SAP

Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review

Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training
