Hamilton, Canada McMaster University Full time
Job Description

The Department of Pediatrics at McMaster University and McMaster Children’s Hospital are seeking a full-time academic physician to join the Division of Child Maltreatment. The successful candidate will be considered a Clinician Educator and will be expected to share responsibility for education and research in the division, as well as for providing comprehensive clinical services.

McMaster Children’s Hospital is a rapidly growing tertiary institution with onsite availability of advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities and specialized Pediatric Radiologists, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Pediatric ICU and all pediatric subspecialties needed to support the work of the physicians in the Child Maltreatment division. The pediatricians in the division work within McMaster Children’s Hospital’s multidisciplinary Child Advocacy and Assessment Program (CAAP). This program provides child maltreatment related assessment, consultation and intervention services to the regions of Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand-Norfolk, Brant, Waterloo, Guelph-Wellington and Halton, serving more than 2.5 million people.

This is an academic appointment and salary and benefits will be based on current Department of Pediatrics policy, and academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The Division of Child Maltreatment currently consists of four full-time GFT physicians and one part-time clinical faculty member. The successful candidate will join the group of physicians who work within the Medical Assessment Clinic to provide on-call availability for child maltreatment consultations to McMaster Children’s Hospital and to all of the child protection agencies, physicians and hospitals in the area. An advanced level of skill in clinical teaching is a must. An interest in leading an expansion of the medical clinic’s research productivity would be an asset. Applicants should be established clinicians in the area of child maltreatment or have successfully completed additional focused training in Child Maltreatment Pediatrics. A diploma in, or eligibility to apply for a diploma, in Child Maltreatment Pediatrics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is an asset.
