Senior Underwriting Specialist - Strategic Accounts Ecclesiastical Insurance Canada, which is proudly part of Benefact Group, is looking for a Senior Underwriting Specialist - Strategic Accounts to join our team in our downtown Toronto office. Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Duration: Permanent. Location: Toronto, Ontario. About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriting Specialist to support our Strategic Accounts portfolio. In this role, you will lead complex risk assessments, develop customized underwriting strategies, and serve as a trusted advisor to key clients and internal stakeholders. Your deep industry knowledge and analytical acumen will help shape underwriting decisions that align with our business goals and client needs. What you'll be doing Evaluate and underwrite large, complex, or unique risks within strategic accounts. Collaborate with account managers, actuaries, and legal teams to structure innovative solutions. Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal partners. Monitor portfolio performance and recommend adjustments to underwriting guidelines. Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives, including product development and process improvement. Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to knowledge-sharing across the team. What you'll need to have A University degree, advanced insurance-related certifications like CIP or equivalent. Minimum 10 years of underwriting experience, with a focus on large or strategic accounts. Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills. Excellent communication and relationship management abilities. Proficiency in underwriting tools, risk modelling, and data analysis platforms. High ethical standards, adherence to industry regulations and guidelines, and the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly. Strong negotiation skills, adaptability to changing market conditions and underwriting guidelines, and ability to handle multiple underwriting files simultaneously. What makes you stand out Extensive expertise in Commercial Property and Casualty Underwriting, with a deep understanding of risk assessment and policy development. Strong communicator, adept at building effective relationships with brokers, senior leadership, and internal teams. Skilled mentor and trainer, providing guidance and support to junior underwriters and serving as a trusted resource across the team. Technologically proficient, with the ability to navigate complex systems and manage challenging conversations with confidence and tact.
