Job Summary UBC has embarked on a multi-year journey to transform its academic and administrative support processes and system environments for the entire UBC community. In November 2020, UBC successfully went live with its new HR and Finance implementation of Workday. The Integrated Renewal Program (IRP) is now focused on the journey to renew the Student information ecosystem, anchored by the implementation of Workday Student. The Integrated Renewal Program—Student (IRP Student) vision is to transform the way UBC supports learning and research, and how UBC works, to create a cohesive, integrated, and enriched experience for students, staff, and faculty. This implementation will result in superior support for UBC students, a better user experience, a new set of tools, a new way of working, and improved reporting for informed decision-making. IRP Student will leverage the industry-leading cloud enterprise solution Workday to replace our current core Student administration systems with a new integrated, user-friendly, mobile-enabled platform. For more information on the IRP, please visit The Senior Business Analyst analyzes business needs and develops overall strategies for how automated systems can be used to support the short- and long-term direction of the business. The Senior Business Analyst provides expertise in the areas of requirements definition, business process definition, business process analysis and design, functional design, configuration, implementation, testing, training, facilitation and documentation to deliver enterprise solutions to the UBC community. The Senior Business Analyst may manage the entire lifecycle of sub-projects which include developing a project plan, coordinating the activities of a project team, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of project. Organizational Status The Senior Business Analyst will work closely with IRP project team members, including project managers, business analysts, developers, functional experts, and other project specialists. This role will report into the Senior Manager, Student Delivery. Strategic or day-to-day direction on work performed may also be provided by the Project Manager or Director, Student Solution.Work Performed Specific Duties: Supports team members in, as well as leads the assessment of client needs utilizing a structured requirements process (gathering, analyzing, documenting, and managing changes) to identify business priorities and recommend options for the implementation of business solutions. Facilitates working groups effectively within the complex team structure within the IRP Program to achieve desired outcomes. Develops and delivers effective presentations and workshops. Leads and conducts workflow and gap analysis for operational support processes. Acquires and maintains a working knowledge of the university's technical and business environment. Understands and applies business architecture concepts to analysis to ensure strategic alignment with organizational goals, outcomes and business value. Develops and maintains a productive working relationship with project sponsors, vendors, key stakeholders other project teams, including technical teams for data conversion, reporting, security and integrations. Works with multiple vendors to foster effective working relationships in order to ensure alignment with project goals and deadlines. Manages multiple operational projects and provides work direction and leadership to associated project teams, including scheduling, assignment of work, review of project efforts and removal of roadblocks that may inhibit project success. Conducts needs analysis, plans, organizes, manages, monitors, completes, and evaluates projects within allocated time and resources. Identifies, obtains and effectively manages organizational resources (e.g., people, materials, assets, budgets). Conducts comprehensive and in-depth feasibility studies for projects and enhancements. Develops user test cases and validates test results during user acceptance testing and system acceptance testing, operational acceptance testing. Core Duties: Analyzes business needs utilizing a structured requirements process (gathering, analyzing, documenting, and managing changes). Develops overall strategies and provides advice on options, risks and costs versus benefits. Communicates with stakeholders of varying technical ability and subject matter expertise and explains services to clients of all management levels to ensure they have a clear understanding of IT roles, processes, and activities. Manages liaison relationship with clients to ensure technical solutions meet user needs. Conducts feasibility studies and drafts proposals for evaluation by appropriate users and managers. Develops and assists in the presentation of business cases. Leads short and long-term planning sessions to implement integrated business process improvements. Identifies, elicits, and documents business requirements, defines business rules and communicates requirements for the implementation of business solutions. Prepares functional, system and program specifications bridging multiple projects. Reviews test plans and monitors the testing process to ensure that business results are adequately tested with minimal risk. Procures technical assistance to help in problem resolution. Provides technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to less-experienced individuals. Maintains appropriate professional designations and up-to-date knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools. Consequence of Error/Judgement Decisions and actions taken by the Senior Business Analyst will have a direct impact on how efficiently and effectively the systems and processes will perform and function. Errors in judgment, poor analysis, or failure to act decisively could have a detrimental effect and adversely impact the university community, affecting up to tens of thousands of students, faculty and staff, and could result in lost productivity, funding and revenue.Supervision Received The Senior Business Analyst reports directly and works under general direction of the Senior Manager, Student Delivery or day-to-day direction on work performed may also be provided by Project Manager or Director, Student Solution. Must be able to work independently as well as contribute actively and collaborate openly as a team member. Supervision Given Plans, directs and supervises work of project team members, such as other business analysts, consultants, quality assurance analysts, and other staff assigned to the project.Minimum Qualifications Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
