Overview Director, Business Advisory & Succession Planning. Under the direction of the Vice President & Head of Business Advisory and Succession Planning, the Director, Business Advisory and Succession Planning is part of the SME Team within BMO Private Wealth. The SME Team provides business advisory and succession planning services to high and ultra-high net worth ("HNW") business owner clients to support growth and retention of client assets through specialized planning solutions that broaden the dialogue and enhance client relationships with BMO Private Banking, BMO Nesbitt Burns or BMO Commercial advisors (the “BMO Advisors”). A key objective for this role is to enhance the BMO Advisors and Clients’ Experience, driving profitability, market share and Net Promoter Scores. Key Accountabilities Provide customized business advisory and succession planning strategies and advice to the HNW client segments. Act as a subject matter expert in business valuation and succession planning to assess and provide tailored insights and solutions to clients. Provide guidance on business valuation, mergers and acquisitions, sale, growth, family transition and succession related events. Collaborate with other planning professionals and BMO Advisors. Demonstrate a consultative and collaborative approach in client conversations as a member of a client strategy team to achieve the desired client experience and business goals. Develop content in areas of business succession and business owner planning for training, internal resources and client-facing materials. Act as a subject matter expert spokesperson on business succession planning internally and externally, including presentations and seminars. Develop proactive, integrated, and customized strategies to help clients achieve business, financial and personal goals. Apply consultative sales and wealth planning principles in client interactions. Lead the development of educational programs in business succession and business owner planning. Provide commentary on emerging business succession planning trends relevant to business owners (e.g., mergers & acquisitions, business valuation, taxation, estate and trust planning, governance, philanthropy). Promote services of wealth planning and specialized planning professionals to BMO Advisors and other user groups. Provide BMO Advisors and clients with accurate subject matter expertise in business owner advisory and succession planning. Serve as in-house expert in providing business owner succession planning. Partner with other planning specialists at BMO where appropriate (e.g., Financial Planning Specialists, Will & Estate Consultants, Tax Specialists, Trust and Insurance Specialists, Mid-Market Mergers & Acquisitions, etc.). Think creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and find practical solutions. Develop/maintain internal and external networks and referral sources to drive growth. Partner with all members of BMO Private Wealth and Commercial Banking to provide a broad-based solutions approach for client situations. Consult with clients and external advisors on complex business succession planning issues as required. Operate at a group/enterprise-wide level and serve as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders. Identify and pursue opportunities for complimentary businesses and solutions. Assist BMO Advisors with business development, opportunity spotting, and revenue generation. Lead, motivate and develop relationships with internal and external partners/stakeholders to build productive working relationships. Protect the Bank’s assets by adhering to banking, investment and lending regulations, Bank policies, legal and ethical requirements and risk guidelines. Qualifications Knowledge University degree with business orientation (business, finance, accounting, law). Relevant professional designation(s) (CPA, CBV, CFA, FEA, Bar Association) considered an asset. Experience in corporate finance and business succession/valuation with a consulting firm or similar role at a financial institution. Minimum of 10 years of experience providing valuation and succession planning advice to HNW business owners at senior level. Extensive knowledge and technical proficiency in business valuation, mergers & acquisitions, and succession planning. Knowledge of tax, estate and trust planning, insurance and philanthropy is an asset. Skills Experienced with the HNW private client segment; fluent in French and English; strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Strong interpersonal skills, flexible and empathetic, self-starter, team-oriented. Ability to communicate complex information clearly and practically, with a deep understanding of client needs and expectations. Collaboration and teamwork; cross-group collaboration. Entrepreneurial mindset with strong analytical, problem-solving and consultative selling skills. Strong team player with leadership abilities; strategic thinker capable of addressing complex and ambiguous issues creatively. Base Salary range for this specific role is $135,000.00 - $185,000.00. You are fluent in French and English as this role provides support to clients and team members inside and/or outside the province of Quebec. Salary: $80,300.00 - $149,300.00 Pay Type: Salaried The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type. Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role; may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on hours worked. For commission roles, the listed salary represents the expected target for the first year in this position.
