Work Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Hours: 35 Line of Business: Analytics, Insights, & Artificial Intelligence Pay Details: 88 500 $/$88,500 - 132 700 $/$132,700 CAD (base salary; variable compensation and benefits are additional) Summary This role will be part of the Geospatial Intelligence team that supports several partners with insights and analytics. We are looking for a self‑motivated individual who thrives in a dynamic fast‑paced environment. As a Data Scientist with geospatial expertise, you will leverage advanced analytics and spatial intelligence to deliver insights that drive strategic decisions in insurance. This role combines data science techniques with GIS capabilities to support pricing, product, underwriting, reinsurance, operations and catastrophe risk modelling. Customer Work closely with business owners to identify opportunities and serve as an ambassador for data science and geospatial intelligence. Translate business problems into viable data science solutions, incorporating geospatial data analysis and spatial modeling where relevant. Use programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and techniques for extracting and preparing data, applying statistics and advanced analytics. Integrate geospatial datasets and tools (ArcGIS, QGIS, GeoPandas) to support location‑based risk assessment and climate modelling. Visualise insights using dashboards, charts, and interactive maps to communicate effective results to stakeholders. Collaborate with data engineers, GIS specialists, and application developers to build scalable solutions. Shareholder Provide analytical thought leadership and stay current on developments in data science and geospatial analytics. Solicit and offer ideas for improving business processes through insights with the objective of improving effectiveness and efficiency. Design and deliver powerful business insights, including spatial risk models for catastrophe and climate exposure . Ensure respective programs/policies/practices are well managed, meet business needs, comply with internal and external requirements, and align with business priorities. Participate in cross‑functional/enterprise initiatives as a subject‑matter expert in geospatial intelligence helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations. Monitor service, productivity and assess efficiency levels within own function and implement continuous process / performance improvements where opportunities exist. Lead / facilitate and/or implement actions / remediation plans to address performance / risk / governance issues. Actively manage relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions and ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements. Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts. Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite. Educate the organisation on geospatial methodologies, spatial data validation, and visualisation techniques. Employee / Team Share knowledge of geospatial tools and best practices within the team. Mentor colleagues on integrating spatial analysis into data science workflows. Promote innovation by combining AI/ML techniques with GIS capabilities. Participate fully as a member of the team, support a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation and teamwork and ensure timely communication of issues/points of interest. Provide thought leadership and/or industry knowledge for own area of expertise in own area and participate in knowledge transfer within the team and business unit. Keep current on emerging trends / developments and grow knowledge of the business, related tools and techniques. Participate in personal performance management and development activities, including cross training within own team. Keep others informed and up to date about the status / progress of projects and / or all relevant or useful information related to day‑to‑day activities. Contribute to team development of skills and capabilities through mentorship of others, by sharing knowledge and experiences and leveraging best practices. Lead, motivate and develop relationships with internal and external business partners / stakeholders to develop productive working relationships. Contribute to a fair, positive and equitable environment that supports a diverse workforce. Act as a brand ambassador for your business area / function and the bank, both internally and/or externally. Breadth & Depth Accountable for complex initiatives requiring integration of geospatial and data science processes. Undertake and complete a variety of complex initiatives requiring seasoned specialist knowledge and/or the integration of cross‑functional processes. Work independently on projects involving spatial data management and advanced analytics. Position typically deals with senior/executive management. May manage and prioritise multiple projects at a given time. Experience and / or Education Undergraduate or graduate degree in Math, Computer Science, Engineering, or Geography/Geospatial Analytics, Computer Science , or related field. 5+ years of relevant experience in data science; experience with geospatial analytics strongly preferred . Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and geospatial libraries (GeoPandas, Shapely). Hands‑on experience with GIS platforms (ArcGIS, QGIS, and ESRI software). Understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and spatial data formats (shapefiles, GeoJSON). Familiarity with insurance industry is an asset. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal ability to tell a compelling story which can be consumed by business partners. #J-18808-Ljbffr
