POSITION TITLE: Communications Advisor DEPARTMENT: Corporate Services SUPERVISOR: Chief Administrative Officer TERMS: Full-Time, Permanent REFERENCE #: Purpose of Position: The Communications Advisor is responsible for participating in the development of strategic communication plans, developing, coordinating, implementing and monitoring TteS communication initiatives through various social and traditional media strategies, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, developing and maintaining positive collaborative relationships with various community members, businesses, agencies, etc., maintaining positive public relations and communication information on behalf of the TteS. Duties and Responsibilities: Plans, organizes and coordinates communications for the TteS and liaisons with various stakeholders to build positive collaborative relationships. (95%) Develops, coordinates, implements and monitors TteS communication initiatives using various media tools including social and traditional communication strategies including updating and maintaining the TteS website. Provides communication analysis for TteS initiatives, liaises with staff, internal and external stakeholders, ensures plans and deliverables integrate corporate strategies, media relations, consultation, marketing and government relations elements. Initiates, develops and manages internal and external communication program through TteS, collaborating with various stakeholders, to ensure consistent and timely implementation. Develops and maintains the effective communications strategies and plans to communicate with TteS stakeholders including producing the organizational newsletter to TteS membership. Prepares eloquent written briefs to assist Chief & Council on platforms where additional communication support is required. Takes direction and collaboratively works with the Marketing Coordinator. Monitors public reaction to issues critical to maintaining confidence in TteS for membership and community groups. Creates an annual communication strategy and budget and produces various reports. Manages multiple competing projects, effectively organizing and prioritizing workload. Attends and reports on various meetings by ensuring all messaging is intrinsically aligned and appropriate for all audiences, internally and externally. Builds strong working relationships and maintains effective collaborative partnerships with various stakeholders. Ensures proper protocols, approvals and budgets are in place and adhered to. Researches, writes and edits press materials including press releases, fact sheets, pitch letters, Q&A’s, media alerts, annual reports and brochures. Acts as liaison between TteS and various stakeholders including media outlets, Kamloopa PowWow Society, etc. Maintains a network of media contacts. Ensures the native language, culture and history are reflected in aspects and functions of the department. Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the TteS policies, standards, and procedures. Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the TteS. Coordinate and monitor audio/visual setup for Membership meetings, services and other, including all electronic and printed materials as required. Coordinate events for large and small audiences, such as National Indigenous Day and other seasonal events throughout the year, including staff appreciation day and other staff related activities. 2. Other related duties as required. (5%) Professional Certification, Education and Experience: Completion of a related degree (e.g. Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or Marketing) and 4 years directly related public organization experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License. Skills and Abilities: Advanced written and oral communication skills to develop and implement communications strategies including advanced skills with social media applications. Solid knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, practices and techniques of strategic communications. Solid interpersonal and relationship building skills with ability to recognize political and other sensitivities, and develop credibility with stakeholders through communication. Solid project management and time management skills. Solid working knowledge of electronic publishing and social media, including strong analytic and problem-solving skills Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work. Strong teamwork, cooperation and service orientation skills. Ability to balance and blend various departmental needs into effective communication strategies. Ability to research, collect data, prepare reports and related documentation. Advanced computer skills in word processing, website management, publication software and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge and understanding of monitoring services, and communication techniques. Basic understanding of photography and use of a/v equipment. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage concurrent activities, keeping staff and colleagues informed. Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment. Extended health, dental, and vision 7.6% Registered Pension Plan (RPP) matching and Life insurance HOURS OF WORK: Normal Day shifts - 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.
