Counsellor I – Tobacco Cessation, Health Link Your Opportunity: If you enjoy working independently in a fast‑paced call centre environment using a client‑centered approach to provide service over the phone, this position may be of interest to you. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will ensure that the client receives appropriate information and support to enable them to decrease or refrain from the use of tobacco, vaping or nicotine products. Your solid knowledge of addictions, motivational interviewing techniques, tobacco cessation, computer systems and their applications will enable you to meet the needs of the client. Strong organisational skills and the ability to problem‑solve will allow you to handle multiple tasks (data input, retrieving information, on‑phone with clients) in a timely manner. Description: As a Counsellor I (Tobacco Cessation Counsellor – TCC), you will provide client‑centered support and telephone consultation, offering information to support and enable the client to decrease or refrain from the use of tobacco. You will manage multiple tasks, utilizing organisational skills while inputting data and retrieving client information throughout the consultation period. Classification Counsellor I (AHE) Union HSAA Facility PROF/TECH Unit and Program Health Link, Tobacco Cessation Location Seventh Street Plaza (As Per Location) Work Details FTE: 0.75 Posting End Date: 17‑NOV‑2025 Temporary Employee Class: Temp P/T Benefits Date Available: 12‑JAN‑2026 Temporary End Date: 27‑SEP‑2026 Hours per Shift: 7.75 Length of Shift in weeks: 12 Shifts per cycle: 45 Shift Pattern: Days, Evenings, Weekends Days Off: As Per Rotation Minimum Salary: $32.76 Maximum Salary: $43.50 Vehicle Requirement: Not Applicable Required Qualifications Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health‑related field. Minimum two years’ experience in a mental health setting. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP). Current First Aid certification. Additional Required Qualifications Registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers or College of Alberta Psychologists (if eligible). Effective time‑management and organisational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner. Goal‑oriented and customer‑service focused with a solution‑based approach to managing client needs. Well‑developed communication skills, effective assessment, interviewing and counselling skills to determine client needs. Ability to work discreetly, confidentially and adapt to a changing environment. Commitment to working in a team setting. Minimum of two years’ experience with counselling clients. Experience with current computer applications and a minimum typing speed of 25‑30 wpm. Preferred Qualifications Experience with customer service and assisting people with tobacco cessation/addictions or lifestyle changes. Knowledge and experience in Connect Care. Confident, positive attitude with a caring and respectful manner. Clear enunciation over the telephone, clear and concise written and oral communication skills, and well‑developed problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
