Summary The Maintenance Supervisor and Chief Power Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all utility systems at the Acheson facility. This includes steam boilers, air compressors, pressure vessels, wastewater treatment systems, domestic and process water infrastructure, fire protection systems, and general building and grounds maintenance. The incumbent also serves as the designated Chief Power Engineer under Alberta provincial regulations, leading the power engineering team and managing equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, and an additional warehouse in West Edmonton. What a typical day looks like: Ensure compliance with Company policies, practices, and procedures related to Health and Safety, Food Safety, and the Environment. Hold responsibility for the safe and reliable operation of steam boilers, air compressors, pressure vessels, wastewater facilities, domestic and process water, fire protection systems, and general utilities. Develop service agreements with OEMs and contractors to maintain critical utility equipment with industry‑standard preventive maintenance programs. Perform department preventive maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubricating, and completing routine maintenance work. Implement, track, and verify work orders assigned to power engineers for timely completion and quality of work. Provide guidance in troubleshooting equipment and processes using CMMS data. Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation. Comply with all safety training, departmental SOPs, and regulations related to equipment and chemical approvals for a food manufacturing facility. Develop and maintain good communication practices with Production staff to advise of lead times required to obtain maintenance parts and/or services, and with Maintenance coworkers to promote a positive and safe work environment. Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service. Participate in departmental housekeeping practices, keeping the maintenance shop and surrounding area clean, including metal rack, outside scrap bins, and the welding station. Develop and demonstrate awareness of corporate policies, practices, and procedures regarding health, safety, and the environment and commit to personal compliance with the same. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant industry technologies and codes. Lead improvement projects to improve equipment reliability and process effectiveness. Lead and implement company sustainability projects geared towards carbon footprint reduction of the facility. Leadership and Behaviors Assist maintenance associates in completing assigned tasks safely and efficiently. Identify and report unsafe acts and conditions observed on the shop floor. Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and projects. Proactively seek opportunities to enhance line efficiency and minimize waste. Maintain records of maintenance associates’ achievements and areas for improvement. Provide regular feedback to improve overall shift performance. Attend CP3 meetings when scheduling permits. Serve as a positive role model for fellow associates. Demonstrate consistent punctuality and reliability. What are we looking for? 4th Class Power Engineer designation. Minimum of five years of supervisory experience in manufacturing or industrial setup. Excellent communication skills among peers and superiors. Excellent time management, planning, and prioritization skills. Continuous Improvement mindset. Successful completion of pre‑employment Drug & Alcohol and Fit‑to‑Work test up to 75 lbs. Clear Criminal Record Check. Working Conditions Work inside a clean, modern, state‑of‑the‑art pet food manufacturing facility with brand new equipment.
