Position Details Position Title: Associate Director Department/Unit: Student Accessibility Services Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Posting Number: S205-25 Employee Group: DPMG Position Type: Regular, On‑Going Employment Type: Full Time Full‑time Equivalency (FTE): 1.0 Salary: $77,938 - $104,545 per annum Classification: ADM‑07 Job Summary A unit of the Division of Student Affairs, the Student Accessibility Centre is Dalhousie’s central expertise on student access, inclusion, and accommodation matters. The Centre administers the university‑wide Student Accommodation Policy and, in partnership with all Programs and Faculties, creates and sustains an inclusive educational environment. The Associate Director, Student Accessibility Centre reports to the AVP of Student Engagement and Success and oversees daily operations of the Student Accessibility and Mark A. Hill Centres. Key Responsibilities Provide 1‑to‑1 advising to facilitate student access to academic courses, programs, facilities, services, and activities; advocate on behalf of students throughout their program. Develop and implement student accommodation plans that reflect the university’s duty to accommodate. Collaborate with Dalhousie departments, faculties, and Student Affairs colleagues to devise strategies addressing student accessibility challenges. Oversee budgets and adjust annual operating budget allocations to respond to changing priorities. Lead and manage a team of eight full‑time staff and over 40 student employees, including recruitment, development, performance management, discipline, and discharge. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Education, Equity and Social Justice), ideally with a clinical background (e.g., Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Counseling). Five years’ experience working with students or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Demonstrated financial and personnel‑management experience. Background in human rights advocacy, student advising, and/or disability support. Experience in a complex case environment. Strong written and oral communication skills and interpersonal aptitude with diverse constituents. Excellent organizational skills, prioritizing workload and providing timely, student‑focused advising. Assets Experience working in a post‑secondary setting. Experience supervising a team in a unionized environment. Clinical knowledge and experience. Program planning and assessment expertise.
