Facilities Engineer (Biotech) – Apex Systems Apex Systems is a leading staffing and consulting firm currently recruiting a Facilities Engineer with 2‑4+ years of experience in the Biotech/Pharma industry, working in a GMP environment and cleanrooms. The role focuses on HVAC and building control systems, support of a QMS, and coordination of external vendor maintenance for a biopharma client. Job Details Contract: 6‑month with likelihood of extension Location: Downtown Toronto, Canada (5 days/week onsite) Client: Innovative Biopharma Start‑up Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance on facilities and make repairs as needed SCHEDULE routine inspections and coordinate emergency repairs with outside vendors Maintain day‑to‑day operations by completing maintenance orders Monitor Building Management System and handle emergency response as needed Respond to, evaluate, and document critical equipment alarms using a CMMS Provide subject‑matter expertise for MEP systems (HVAC, compressed gas, boilers, chillers, etc.) Conduct daily inspections to ensure facilities utilities and spaces are in optimum condition Provide on‑call support as required Help execute annual facility maintenance shutdowns Key Qualifications BSc in Engineering or related life science degree with 2+ years of experience, or 4+ years relevant experience in Biotech/Pharma facilities Experience working with mechanical HVAC and building controls Experience with CMMS and QMS systems Hands‑on experience with maintenance equipment Experience in BSL2, cleanrooms, and GMP spaces Familiarity with cGMPs and application to pharmaceutical or biologic manufacturing (preferred) Excellent written and oral communication skills, with keen attention to detail and high organization Demonstrated flexibility in adjusting to changing priorities and schedules Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment with a team‑oriented focus Experience with MS Suite, Smartsheet, OneNote, and document management systems Apex Benefits Overview Apex offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, an employee stock purchase program, a 401(k) plan with company match, a Health Savings Account, an Employee Assistance Program, corporate discount savings, and professional development resources.
