This role is based at our corporate headquarters in Calgary, AB. Purpose of the position The Director Corporate Reporting leads a team responsible for month-end close and consolidation of financial results, management reporting of consolidated results, external financial reporting and legal entity compliance reporting, and managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Position accountabilities Oversee monthly close and consolidation Oversee preparation of external consolidated financial reports of CPKC on Forms 8-K/10-Q/10-K Review entity financial statements and oversee subsidiary audits for tax and regulatory compliance Oversee delegation of Journal Entry Procedure policy and ensure period journal entry testing procedures are followed for control purposes Oversee the account reconciliation process and ensure that account reconciliation policy and procedures are followed Review executive reports on financial results, including operating metrics, business drivers and variance explanations (monthly flash report and quarterly earnings per share and operating ratio waterfall with supporting schedules) Coordinate processes and scheduling with internal stakeholders, contributors and external auditors Lead development and implementation of team projects and initiatives including quarter-end and year-end external and management reporting, process documentation, data management and system optimization related to Corporate Reporting Recommend reporting solutions addressing significant financial transactions and track their timely implementation Lead research and analysis of technical literature related to emerging ESG disclosure requirements, provide advice and recommendations on options Supervise, train and mentor staff with duties related to corporate reporting Maintain and manage exemplary relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including external auditors, internal controls, regulatory, legal, accounting and finance, tax, investor relations, and communications & media Ensure financial reporting and disclosures comply with US GAAP and securities regulations; ensure underlying processes comply with internal controls/SOX requirements Address queries from auditors and internal reviewers Position requirements Accounting designation (CPA or CA) and bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or related field 10+ years of public company external reporting or audit and SEC reporting is desirable Minimum 5 years of leadership experience Knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory requirements for public companies Strong attention to detail and accuracy Strong leadership, analytical, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills Ability to set and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Excellent verbal and written communication skills What CPKC has to offer Flexible and competitive benefits package Competitive company pension and/or retirement plans Employee Share Purchase Plan Performance Incentive Plan Annual Fitness Subsidy Part-time Studies Program Pre-employment requirements Criminal history check Education verification Professional references Becoming a railroader As an employee with a North American presence, the location of your position may be changed based on organizational requirements.
