Contribute to the overall success of the Accounting Policy and Procedures Group by implementing hedging strategies under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) to ensure the Bank qualifies eligible derivatives for hedge accounting treatment, thus immunizing volatility in earnings and adding value to business lines. Gain experience with systems and technical accounting across a variety of Scotiabank financial products, valuations, analysis, and reporting. Manage projects for systems development and operational process improvements in a hybrid office‑remote model. Is this role right for you? In this role, you will: Collaborate daily with front‑office and other business lines on hedging requests; review eligibility, identify associated strategies, set up new strategies, and complete required documentation. Monitor hedging relationships to ensure they continue to meet hedge‑qualification requirements and maintain high effectiveness. Ensure all instruments in hedging relationships are active and obtain confirmation of hedged‑item existence and hedge activity from various business areas monthly. Manage tight month‑end close by reconciling, analysing, and communicating hedge‑accounting results for various hedging units to Group Treasury and other business partners. Prepare information for quarterly and annual financial disclosure and provide support for ad‑hoc analysis and financial reporting. Remain current with emerging industry best practices for hedge qualification through research and critical reading of articles issued by regulatory bodies and industry associations. Skills and Qualifications Self‑driven, analytical, and collaborative with strong problem‑solving, time‑management, and communication skills. Solid knowledge of finance and financial products, including various derivatives. Post‑secondary degree in Finance/Accounting/Business with a minimum of 4 years industry experience. An accounting designation (CPA) or working toward a designation is an asset; a CFA designation is desirable. Knowledge of Peak or other trading system, PeopleSoft, EGL, OBI, Excel, and PowerPoint.
