Senior Mechanical Engineer (Stress Analysis) Terrestrial Energy is developing a zero‑emissions cogeneration plant using its proprietary Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) technology. We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to perform mechanical design analysis of reactor systems and components throughout the Detailed Engineering phase. Responsibilities Prepare calculations and reports for reactor components (e.g., pressure vessels, supports, graphite core components) using fatigue, creep, dynamic, static, linear, and nonlinear analysis as required. Assess structural integrity of proposed designs and provide feedback to optimize mechanical design and performance. Participate in design reviews and review design documents and calculations. Communicate and collaborate with various technical disciplines to understand interfacing system design and loading. Conduct presentations to interdisciplinary teams and external parties. Interface with external vendors, experts, and design agencies. Mentor junior and intermediate level engineers and analysts. Core Competencies Mechanical analysis using FEA and analytical methods. Strong knowledge of solid mechanics and material science fundamentals. Communication, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making. Leadership, planning, organizing, teamwork, collaboration. Flexible and adaptable; learning agility. Requirements Post‑secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical, Materials, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field. PE Certification. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical and thermal stress analysis using FEA. Advanced knowledge of commercial FEA software (ANSYS Mechanical/APDL preferred). Knowledge of programming (Python, C, Fortran, MATLAB, C++ or similar) for data pre/post‑processing or automation. Experience with fatigue, creep, dynamic and static, linear and nonlinear analyses. Demonstrated success in project delivery and mechanical design methods. Strong problem identification and resolution skills. Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines. Willingness to adapt and learn new approaches. Effective written and verbal communication. Ability to work independently and with teams on complex problems. Excellent relationship building across all levels of the organization and with external customers and vendors. Assets Knowledge of nuclear and/or non‑nuclear codes and standards including ASME Section III Divisions 1 and 5, CSA N285.0, ASME B31.1, CSA B51. Experience with high‑temperature reactor applications and ASME Section III Division 5. Experience developing custom constitutive models and their implementation in FEA. Experience running large‑scale models using HPCs. Graduate‑level degree (Master’s or PhD) with an applicable specialization. Industry experience designing systems and components. Experience analyzing non‑metallic materials (particularly graphite core components). Working knowledge of radiation effects on materials. Experience with pressure vessel design and registration (TSSA, CNSC). Experience related to ASME Section III Appendix XXIII qualification in Design Reports.
