Staff Software Engineer, AI Nurture – Apartment List The AI Nurture team uses cutting‑edge AI and GenAI technologies to revolutionize the apartment renting experience, engaging millions of renters and bridging the gap between renters and property managers. As a Staff Engineer (SE5)/Tech Lead, you will be a hands‑on engineering leader, ensuring efficient delivery of cross‑functional projects, tech consolidation, and product initiatives, shaping the future of AI‑driven real‑estate solutions. We are a virtual first company, but this role requires collaboration with both US and Israeli engineering teams. We are only considering candidates in the Eastern Standard Time (EST) timezone. Responsibilities Leadership and Management : Facilitate challenging projects, drive the team toward action, employ analytical decision making through uncertainty; manage and oversee the work of US‑based engineers; foster a collaborative environment aligned with our culture and practices; work closely with the Head of AI Nurture and Head of Lister Engineering. Project and Technical Oversight : Identify paths to move forward, unlock clarity; lead both product initiatives and technical health projects; drive the consolidation of AIN’s tech stack with the broader stack and facilitate AI‑Proofing; actively participate in engineering leadership forums to represent AIN team’s interests; 70%+ hands‑on work. Cross‑Functional Collaboration : Push and drive action in cross‑functional projects with Israeli and US developers, designers, product, data science leads; coordinate with US‑based engineering leaders to ensure alignment and effective collaboration. Qualifications Software Engineer level 5 with full‑stack capabilities and a background in management roles. Startup mindset and experience. Leadership: self‑sufficient, natural leader, thrives in uncertainty, able to push agenda and align stakeholders. Bias toward action: balances long‑term thinking with immediate results, uses experiments and research to identify impactful opportunities. Strong work ethic: willing to roll up sleeves, identify when extra effort is beneficial, and follow through. Ability to scope out and lead cross‑functional projects: architecture and design, grooming tickets. Experience working in Scrum/Agile practices. Familiarity with the following technologies: NodeJS, Python, Ruby on Rails, React/NextJS, MongoDB or equivalent non‑relational databases, Postgres or equivalent relational databases, GCP, AWS or similar, Jenkins, GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD. Location Must be based on the East Coast of the United States to maximize overlap with the Israel‑based team. Nice‑to‑Haves Collaborating with Data Science teams. The base salary range for this position is: Zone 1: $169,000 – $205,000 TTC (including $149,000 – $180,000 base salary) + equity. Zone 2: $152,000 – $184,000 TTC (including $134,000 – $162,000 base salary) + equity. Compensation details do not include benefits and perks. Pay may be higher near the upper end of the range for exceptional candidates.
