About the Position Part‑time temporary support staff role, reporting to the Dean, Applied Science, Engineering Technology & Trades (ASETT), earning $34.77 per hour. The role offers the opportunity to shape a new Powerline Technician (PLT) program from the ground up—designing curriculum, hands‑on labs and pole yard to meet industry realities. The position is project‑based and flexible, allowing you to maintain full‑time employment while contributing your expertise. Specific Accountabilities Program, Curriculum, and Lab Development: Provide industry insights on standards, expectations, trade competencies and safety practices. Create accurate course outlines reflecting current industry practices and required learning outcomes. Develop structured course plans, including weekly topics, practical components, assessments, and required resources. Hands‑On Lab & Pole Yard Development: Recommend hands‑on skill development and field‑based learning activities. Advise on pole yard setup, layout, equipment and safety considerations to align with real‑world PLT training standards. Identify necessary tools, climbing gear, hardware and training equipment. Assessment & Evaluation: Create meaningful assessments measuring applied skills, safety knowledge, troubleshooting ability and overall trade competency. Develop clear, competency‑based rubrics aligned with learning outcomes and industry expectations. Optional Future Teaching Opportunity: Candidates may be considered for part‑time teaching once the program launches. Qualifications Required: Extensive industry experience as a Powerline Technician, Powerline Maintainer, Lineworker or related role. Strong Understanding Of: Utility operations Electrical distribution systems Field safety protocols Climbing, rigging, troubleshooting and emergency response practices Preferred: Experience training or mentoring apprentices, crew members or new hires Involvement in developing training materials, procedures or safety documentation Experience with curriculum development (asset, not required) Additional Skills (Assets): Ability to translate hands‑on field expertise into structured learning materials. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfort with collaborative project work. Genuine interest in supporting the next generation of trades professionals.
