Now Hiring: Deputy Fire Chief, Training & Life Safety (Competition #25-95) Key Responsibilities Parkland County has an opportunity for a permanent, full-time Deputy Fire Chief, Training & Life Safety position in the Fire Services Department. Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief, Training & Life Safety is responsible for the administration and oversight of the firefighter training and community safety programs, including fire inspection, fire investigation, and public education, across Parkland County. This position assists with ensuring program standards are maintained and provides recommendations for program enhancements for the department. This position is also required to be an active member of Parkland County’s Incident Management Team and provide emergency response services as required. Requirements The ideal candidate for this position will have the following: A High-school Diploma with some post-secondary work in Fire Services Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field. Professional development or certifications related to adult education, safety codes, and/or wildland fire management and behaviour. Meet all minimum requirements as follows: NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 2, NFPA 1002 Apparatus Operator, Pump, Aerial, NFPA 1021 Fire Officer 1 & 2, NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector, NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator, NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor Level 2, Safety Codes Officer Fire Group B Level 2, Safety Codes Officer Fire Group C Level 2, and Standard First Aid Level C with CPR. Safety Codes Officer Fire Group E is preferred. A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of comprehensive knowledge of National Fire Protection Association standards as they relate to firefighter training and safety. Comprehensive knowledge of the National Fire Code (Alberta Edition), the Safety Codes Act, and related acts, regulations, codes, standards, and legislated processes. Demonstrated ability to be professional, self-motivated, and lead both small and large teams of staff, both paid-on-call and full-time, in the completion of both simple and highly complex tasks, projects, or duties. Current clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening must be provided prior to the extension of an offer, following the interview process. Possession of a valid class 3 driver’s license (with air breaks) and satisfactory commercial driving record is required upon hire. The total rewards package for this position includes: A starting annual salary of $120,500 to $130,300, based on a 35-hour work week and option to join the Earned Day Off Program. In addition, extended health and dental benefits, pension through LAPP and optional APEX pension, access to our confidential Employee and Family Assistance Program, paid sick time, three (3) weeks vacation plus five (5) extra management days per year with your birthday off, and access to up to seven (7) personal days per year.
