And that’s where you come in. Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid) To provide systems design and design decision authority for all Data Communication Systems (DCS) products and projects. This includes the development and management of Requirements Specifications at the System and Subsystem levels, as well as Design Descriptions and Verification Requirements. The role also involves providing technical advice to the Director of System Engineering on all DCS-related technical issues and offering technical direction and leadership to the DCS design staff. Key Accountabilities Provide technical advice to the Director, Systems Engineering, on all technical matters and management issues related to the Data Communication Systems design department. Ensure design activities follow the established structured Systems Design process. Provide technical marketing support and review of technical specifications. Assist marketing in the preparation of technical proposals and budgets related to marketing proposals. Provide assistance and guidance to the DCS Design Specialists regarding their responsibilities and design decisions. Responsible for preparing resource plans and the budget for the DCS Design Group, ensuring that company objectives are met within budget. Approve estimates for project activities and manage the DCS Design Group to ensure work is completed on time and within budget. Develop and train resources to ensure adequate and qualified staff are available to perform and lead the design/requirements development for projects/products, including acceptance requirements. Represent the department on the Change Control Committee, reviewing change proposals and approving ECNs on behalf of the department. Represent Hitachi Rail at technical committees, as required. Keep current with technical developments in the Data Communication Systems and railway signalling field, both within and outside of the company. Support the development of a robust, reliable, and secure Data Communication Systems product. Manage frequent, unexpected technical problems promptly. Ensure compliance with customer specifications/requirements in all technical designs, and minimize risks while maximizing benefits for product development. Ensure effective test requirements are developed. Manage project-related technical issues to ensure specification compliance. Set systems design direction for DCS projects and products. Participate in the decision-making process, formulating strategy for technical issues as related to the Systems Engineering Department. Approve technical designs, including hardware and software configurations, to ensure compliance with contract specifications. Ensure that processes for Systems Design and Requirement Management are followed. Prepare estimates for development efforts, technical designs, and schedules related to Systems Department tasks and proposals. Manage the hiring, promotion, compensation, and performance of DCS design staff within the approved budget. Key Requirements B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent. 10+ years of technical/project experience in critical control systems and data communication systems. Detailed knowledge of Railway Operating Rules and practices. Good technical writing skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Thank you for your interest in Hitachi Rail.
