Community Health Nurse RN

Whitehorse, Canada Bayshore HealthCare Full time
MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE YUKON

Bayshore HealthCare’s Northern Nursing program has provided high-quality community health relief staffing services to Indigenous and northern communities since 1997. Our Nurses work closely with diverse Indigenous communities (First Nations, Inuit and Métis), providing care to community members in Canada’s North. We hire nurses for remote northern communities of British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

Whitehorse is the capital and only city of Yukon, and the largest city in northern Canada. Because of the city's location in the Whitehorse valley and relative proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the climate is milder than comparable northern communities such as Yellowknife. At this latitude, winter days are short and summer days have up to about 19 hours of daylight.

The work you will do:

As a Registered Community Health Nurse (RN) you will be responsible for providing primary health care services to the client population within the legislated scope of practice, regulatory body standards of practice, organizational policies and procedures and individual competencies. This assignment involves working in a Corrections Facility that operates similarly to a Community Health Centre with medical directives in the absence of a physician. Focus will be on acute issues requiring advanced assessment knowledge.

Assignments will be four (4) weeks minimum.

Why Bayshore?

Enjoy fully paid & planned travel while doing what you love
Highly competitive pay packages & incentives
Comprehensive orientation and training
Continual learning and professional development
24/7 support from a caring and dedicated team who welcomes you from your first day
Job Qualification

Who You Are:

You have recent (within 5 years) Emergency Room/Urgent Care and Community Health Nurse experience combined (total 3 years)
You are a Registered Nurse with ER and CHN experience, preferably with northern nursing experience in either territory
Given the facility's uniqueness, experience as a corrections nurse is not necessary but an asset
Your Registration in Yukon is active and in good standing
You will be required to have completed necessary certifications prior to travel and to complete specific certifications upon arrival to assignment
You are physically able to complete walking 3-4 flights of stairs carrying an emergency medical bag (20 – 25 lbs) in case of emergency. Masks wearing requirements are in place and mandatory at the facility

Thank you to all applicants. Candidates selected for an interview will be contacted directly

Bayshore is committed to a high quality and safe environment for both our staff and clients/patients. Dependent upon Provincial government regulations, and the position being applied for, new hires may be required to provide proof of vaccination against illnesses such as COVID-19, Hepatitis, Seasonal Flu etc. Please speak with the recruiter for Provincial and/or position specific requirements.
