Power TakeOff is seeking an Energy Efficiency Engineer I/II who will primarily work internally with the Virtual Commissioning (VCx™) and Virtual Strategic Energy Management (vSEM™) Teams and interface externally in customer meetings. Position Summary The Energy Efficiency Engineer I/II will be a technical lead for Power TakeOff’s two key utility offerings: Virtual Commissioning (VCx) and Virtual Strategic Energy Management (vSEM) programs, and will also provide technical support for other new energy management initiatives. This role will be a central knowledge expert for HVAC, controls, and energy efficiency best practices; advising customers at large commercial, institutional, and manufacturing sites on optimal controls to uncover deep, low/no‑cost energy efficiency opportunities. An Engineer II would also leverage past experience to be an expert technical resource supporting other new Demand Side Management (DSM) programs or offerings and may have some independent direct work with customers. Potentially reporting to the Senior Energy Efficiency Engineering Manager within Power TakeOff’s Portfolio Management team. Engineer I Key Responsibilities Customer Engagement: work alongside Energy Advisors and vSEM coaches to analyze interval energy usage data, identify key drivers of energy use, and discover low and no‑cost energy savings measures at customer facilities. Help the vSEM coaches develop technical material for ongoing vSEM workshops. Technical Resource Development and Training: contribute to research and documentation to shape internal resources and best practices for technical engagement. Monitor performance of Energy Advisors, collaborate with the Technical Team manager to identify training needs and professional development opportunities. Measurement and Verification (M&V): partner with the internal M&V team to evaluate and communicate performance results; assist Energy Advisors and vSEM Coaches with resolving technical issues with customers as needed. Engineer II Additional Responsibilities Customer Engagement: review past projects to identify trends and lessons learned; provide expert technical guidance and troubleshooting for complex issues as they arise. Contribute to Training and Professional Development: collaborate with team members to develop internal resources and best practices for technical engagement; develop training materials for non‑technical staff; contribute to technical trainings in retro‑commissioning and energy efficiency for other technical team members; pursue ongoing learning and training on additional technical skills to serve VCx, vSEM, and other programs. Engineer I Key Qualifications Engineering Qualification: PE (US) or P. Eng. License, or possess engineer‑in‑training status from an accredited engineering program; Bachelor’s degree. Experience: 3+ years implementing solutions for energy efficiency, facilities HVAC management, BAS controls programming, HVAC design, energy advising, utility DSM program delivery, or SEM coaching for large commercial facilities or institutions/campuses. Preference for candidates with on‑site field experience. Technical Knowledge: commercial HVAC systems (HVAC, controls, lighting) required; substantial knowledge of industrial/manufacturing facility operations strongly preferred. Skills: excellent facilitation and communication for presenting technical material to non‑technical audiences; strong analytical skills and experience with data interpretation; exceptional project management skills. Education: bachelor’s degree from an accredited engineering program or other 4‑year science degree with equivalent engineering work experience. Certification: CEM, CxA, BCxP, CPE, or equivalent preferred. Interest and passion for energy efficiency consulting and making a positive difference. Must be comfortable working independently in a 100% virtual environment. Engineer II Additional Qualifications Experience: 4+ years implementing solutions for energy efficiency, facilities HVAC management, BAS controls programming, HVAC design, energy advising, utility DSM program delivery, or SEM coaching for large commercial facilities or institutions/campuses. Preference for candidates with on‑site field experience. Technical Knowledge: commercial HVAC controls programming proficiency in various BAS platforms required. Skills: excellent facilitation and communication for presenting technical material to both technical and non‑technical audiences; proficient with Salesforce or similar CRM tools. Certification: CEM, CxA, BCxP, CPE, or equivalent required. Location and Travel Power TakeOff is a 100% virtual company. Residence in the Denver, CO or Kitchener‑Waterloo, ON hubs is desired but not required. Travel is not expected; the company will cover accommodation and travel expenses for any required travel. Compensation and Benefits Base salary range for U.S. residents: $70,000 - $95,000 USD per year, depending on experience.
