Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS) provides supports for seniors, families, and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, continuing care, financial supports, affordable housing, services for the homeless, and other social‑based programs. The Ministry supports Albertans through a person‑centered, integrated service delivery model that recognizes the unique circumstances, experiences and strengths of individuals and families. The Appeals Secretariat is a neutral government body that administers the appeals process for Albertans appealing decisions on social services they receive or applied for to the Citizen’s Appeal Panel (CAP). The CAP is a neutral adjudicative tribunal providing fair, impartial, and independent hearings to Albertans. Secretariat provides support to CAP and parties to an appeal ensuring a timely and fair process. Responsibilities Provide administrative support for all appeals by contacting parties to obtain, clarify, and confirm pertinent information required to facilitate timely appeals. Inform, educate and consult with parties and stakeholders on appeals and the appeal process. Manage complex appeals. Provide support in the development and implementation of appeal processes and procedures. Competencies Creative Problem Solving Drive for Results Agility Qualifications Requirements: Two‑year Diploma or Degree in public administration, social science, law, or paralegal; no experience required. Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. Assets: Experience in a legal or quasi‑judicial environment; experience with complex issue interpretation and conflict resolution. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Experience working with diverse and/or vulnerable populations (e.g., individuals with social barriers, mental health issues and a variety of challenging circumstances). Experience understanding and interpreting legislation. Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
