GHD is looking for a Senior Process Mechanical Engineer to join our Waterloo or GTA office locations. The Mechanical Design group provides engineering support primarily to Ontario, but also to the wider network of over 10,000 GHD staff worldwide. We design mechanical solutions for water & wastewater, co-generation, biogas, natural gas, agricultural and food services, and industrial facility support. Projects range from a few thousand to several million in engineering fees. We need staff who can stay flexible and provide recommendations across a wide range of topics. This role can be based in any of our Ontario offices – Waterloo, Toronto, Mississauga, Markham or Whitby. Responsibilities Design engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a design brief that conforms to organizational and/or regulatory standards. Lead and oversee the preparation of mechanical system designs, drawing and 3‑D model preparation. Coordinate hydraulic and stress analyses of critical piping systems. Generate, review and take responsibility for contract documents and specifications primarily as they relate to process mechanical requirements. Interact with core discipline teams and internal/external clients to coordinate and achieve project objectives in a timely manner. Act as a mentor to junior engineers and engineering technicians. Ensure technical communication is clear, concise, and well understood by partners at all levels of management. Communicate and interface regularly with clients, vendors and contractors. Contribute to the drafting of engineering standards and specifications and evaluate their effectiveness within the engineering discipline. Analyze client technical specifications and requirements in terms of mechanical engineering principles and technology requirements. Analyze information and specify methods and process steps for plant, machinery and equipment design, continuously improving manufacturing or material processes. Develop personal capabilities through assessment, development planning, formal and informal training, coaching and external professional accreditation where relevant. Carry out inspections to evaluate the quality of engineering works and the integrity of installations or structures, specifying remedial works needed to ensure conformance to specifications and regulatory requirements. Work within established knowledge‑management systems to deliver preset outcomes. Manage day‑to‑day relationships with contract service providers within an established contract‑management plan. Identify shortcomings in existing processes and use established change‑management programs to address them. Define and deliver products and services that meet customer needs by selecting the best possible approaches. Deliver small or medium‑scale projects within an established program‑management plan. Education Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent level. Experience Substantial general work experience and comprehensive job‑related experience in own area of expertise – minimum 10 years. General supervision of junior colleagues – 7 to 12 months. P.Eng. designation in Ontario. Minimum 10 years of experience within a related industry, preference for municipal and industrial water and wastewater facilities. Experience designing large wastewater pumping stations for municipal regions. Project management experience is an asset. Familiarity with BIM 360, REVIT, AutoCAD and NavisWorks is an asset. Flexibility and adaptability to handle a wide range of client and project types and requirements. Strong analytical, mechanical and problem‑solving skills. Ability to lead and multitask in a team environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively express technical information to multiple audiences. Must hold a valid driver’s licence in Ontario and be willing to travel within Ontario and Canada as required.
