Senior Software Engineer, Developer Productivity Our R&D Productivity Group develops AI-powered advice and exclusive features that help MongoDB engineers ship products meeting high standards for performance, security, availability, and correctness. The Developer Productivity organization enables MongoDB engineers to deliver reliable, high‑quality products through robust tooling across the stack, from the storage engine to the Atlas cloud offering. Within Developer Productivity, the Last Mile team works closely with teams across the company to identify challenges, deliver critical features, and build solutions that benefit all development teams. This role requires deep empathy for stakeholders, a strong business‑impact mindset, and willingness to engage across the entire breadth of our tooling. This role can be based out of our Toronto office or remotely in the Ontario region. Qualifications 4+ years of experience working on software or software systems Strong customer focus, able to identify and understand core challenges customers face, even when not clearly expressed Quick learner, adaptable to new technologies, frameworks, and tools in dynamic environments Experience working in Python Experience working with compiled languages (team interacts with C++ and Go, but does not write them) Experience designing and building tools for other developers, including web‑based tools, APIs, and/or command‑line tools Experience shipping systems in a cloud environment such as Kubernetes and AWS (or similar), and understanding concepts such as provisioning and deployment Expectations Collaborate with teams across the organization to understand their most pressing challenges and create solutions that address their needs Develop a broad, high‑level understanding of core systems used to build MongoDB products, and help navigate and resolve issues spanning multiple teams Build tools to use across the development lifecycle, helping teams work faster and ship higher‑quality products Provide internal support for our systems, answering questions and addressing technical issues as they arise Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering their technical growth, professional development, and confidence in solving complex problems Success Three Months Make contributions to in‑progress software development projects, including providing feedback and input to design changes while the project is in progress. Work reliably on small features and bugs, and medium features in areas you have worked on. Participate in discussions about next steps for larger projects in the following quarter. Six Months Lead or be a major contributor on one or more substantial development projects. Regularly suggest and evaluate large and small projects. Be a subject‑matter expert across some of our systems and answer questions about performance and operation. One Year Regularly lead or make major contributions to technical projects with substantial impact on our ability to reliably deliver a good experience for developers using MongoDB products. Act as a strong technical resource across all of our systems, provide support and guidance on technical direction, and mentor newer and more junior team members.
