In collaboration with the Director, they will collaboratively oversee the Organizing strategies of the union and be responsible for overseeing the training and evaluation of temporary field servicing representatives. Additionally, the Associate Director serves as the designate when the Director is unavailable. Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership & Management Supervise and support organizers assigned to organizing campaigns including strikes, contract campaigns, and other initiatives to increase member engagement. Assist the Director in recruiting and interviewing servicing and administrative staff. Conduct performance evaluations and develop staff through professional growth opportunities. Mentor, train and evaluate temporary field servicing representatives during their work experience in organizing. Foster a positive, collaborative team culture aligned with BCGEU’s values of respect, fairness, and inclusivity. Address performance issues through appropriate performance management processes and take corrective actions and apply disciplinary measures as needed. Work as part of an operation team of senior management. Assume administrative responsibility for BCGEU committees and components as assigned. Act as the Director’s designate in their absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and decision making for the department. Project Coordination and Supervision of Internal Organizing Initiatives Assist the Director in overseeing Organizing Campaigns, collaborating with stakeholders (members and staff) to define requirements, set timelines, plan, prioritize, and allocate resources effectively. Prepare and present regular status reports highlighting progress, risks, and key milestones, keeping the Director and relevant stakeholders informed. Support strike planning and implementation. Present updates and recommendations to the Director, and, when needed, to executive leadership. Build coalitions with community allies, political leaders, and other unions to amplify contract campaign efforts. Budget Management Assists the Director with the annual budgeting process. Assists in identifying gaps in resources and staffing levels. Key Success Factors: Effective Team Management Build a high-performing team through clear leadership, defined goals, and consistent mentorship. Project Coordination & Leadership Support Effectively fill in for the Director, as needed. Collaborate effectively with elected leadership and other departments. Education & Relevant Experience: Experience in a unionized or non-profit environment is an asset. Minimum 5 years of union organizing experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role. Proven success in leading organizing campaigns from inception to completion. Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Commitment to social justice, equity, and the labor movement. Experience in strike preparation and high stakes bargaining scenarios. Familiarity with digital mobilization tools Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Leadership & Team Building : Proven ability to build, motivate, and develop a high-performing team. Ability to proactively address performance issues. Technical Expertise : Strong understanding of the labour code, union operations, and political dynamics. Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to translate technical issues and solutions into clear, concise information for diverse audiences. Problem-Solving: Adept at diagnosing complex technical issues, identifying root causes, and implementing lasting solutions. Makes firm decisions even under uncertainty. Project Management : Capable of coordinating multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks effectively, and meeting deadlines while maintaining a calm and strategic approach. SALARY RANGE: Classification: ES4 Bi-Weekly: $ 6,371.53 Annually: $166,228.76 Travel is required; therefore, applicants must hold a valid B.C. Drivers Licence.
