Duties The Detection Manager (uniform position) is responsible for managing short to medium-term initiatives and daily operations to ensure effective delivery of the detection mandate within the Parliamentary Precinct. This includes creating, planning and executing integrated processes to align detection activities with organizational goals and coordinate efforts across units. The role involves managing teams of Detection Specialists and day-to-day Operations deliverables. The manager consults with clients and stakeholders to identify needs and propose informed options, advising senior management on emerging and existing issues related to program initiatives. As the onsite leader, they oversee daily detection operations, analyze and coordinate efforts to foster a high-performance culture through motivation, coaching, and performance management of Detection Specialists. The manager promotes collaboration, seamless communication, and team cohesion, ensures compliance with policies and standards, and maintains positive relationships with union representatives and key stakeholders. Proactively identifying operational challenges and developing timely solutions, the manager communicates operational updates and recommendations to senior leadership to support continuous improvement and optimal security outcomes within the Parliamentary Precinct. Work environment The Parliamentary Protective Service (PPS) is a separate and distinct organization not subject to the Public Service Employment Act. It has its own classification, compensation system, and staffing regime. Persons appointed to PPS continue to be part of the federal government and will receive the public service pension plan and public service insurance benefits plan. Conditions of employment Reliability Status security clearance - You must be eligible to obtain both a Site Access Clearance and an Enhanced Reliability Status clearance. The process involves a background investigation that includes a loyalty assessment, law enforcement verifications, credit and financial verifications, a security interview, personal references and previous employers will also be contacted as part of the security screening process. You must also consent to complete a personal history questionnaire, be fingerprinted, and be photographed. Education Successful completion of a post‑secondary educational program related to the position OR an acceptable combination of education, experience, and training. The educational program must be from an accredited learning institution recognized in Canada. If you completed a program outside of Canada, you will be required to obtain proof of a Canadian equivalency at your expense from an accredited learning institution recognized in Canada. Experiences E1 - Experience overseeing and coordinating daily tasks and deliverables. E2 - Significant experience in supervising and/or managing employees. E3 - Experience assigning, monitoring, and evaluating work objectives. E4 - Experience in operational settings such as law enforcement or high‑pressure conditions. E5 - Experience in analyzing complex issues or problems, providing well‑informed recommendations and strategic solutions to senior and executive management.
