The Team The Curriculum Quality Assurance unit is one of six resources within the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT). Through a collaborative approach, the Centre fosters a community dedicated to big thinking about curriculum, pedagogy, and creative ways of developing inclusive teaching practices that enrich the student learning experience. Curriculum Quality Assurance It is a primary resource within the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. Its main goal is to partner with Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) programs to envision innovative, evidence‑driven curriculum initiatives that are student‑focused, career‑relevant, and inclusive. This is done by providing faculty and staff with advising and facilitative support related to: New program development Periodic program reviews Curriculum renewal and enhancement Developing, mapping, and assessing learning outcomes The Opportunity Reporting directly to the Vice‑Provost Academic, and providing supervisory support to the Curriculum Specialists and a Curriculum Assistant, the Director, Curriculum Quality Assurance will lead the university’s Curriculum Quality Assurance (CQA) unit to ensure compliance with the Quality Assurance Framework (QAF) of Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance and TMU’s Institutional Quality Assurance Process (IQAP). Role Responsibilities Strategic Leadership: Leads the development and implementation of annual and longer‑term plans and priorities for the CQA unit, in alignment with the strategic directions of the Vice‑Provost Academic and the Executive Director, CELT. Advises and supports the Office of the Vice‑Provost Academic on curriculum policy, governance, and compliance matters, and collaborates with the Executive Director, CELT, to advance institutional priorities related to curriculum quality. Provides strategic oversight in the development, review, and evaluation of new undergraduate program proposals, periodic program reviews (PPRs), and curriculum modifications to assess longer‑term viability, in collaboration with academic units, the Registrar’s Office, and Senate committees. Provides guidance and support to faculty and staff on preparation of new undergraduate program proposals, periodic program reviews (PPRs), and curriculum modifications ensuring alignment with the IQAP and other related Senate policies. Participates in the Associate Deans’ monthly meetings and other academic governance meetings to share information, provide interpretive advice on processes, and address emerging issues. Manages and provides advice on all curriculum submissions to the Quality Council and its committees. Operations and Resource Management: Manages the day‑to‑day operations and administration of the CQA unit, ensuring effective coordination of university‑wide assurance submissions and reports to the Quality Council, and overseeing deployment staff, processes, and systems that support program review and approval activities. Leads the development and implementation of efficient workflows and administrative systems to support the review, approval, and effective archiving of curriculum submissions and ASC documents, and oversees the maintenance of the CQA website to ensure accuracy and accessibility of information. Collaborates with the Registrar’s office, Yeates School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (YSGPS), and other partners to maintain the currency and accessibility of IQAP schedules, manuals, and resources. Financial Management and Reporting: Prepares and manages the annual budget projections for the CQA unit, including forecasting expenditures and providing recommendations for necessary adjustments to meet operational needs. Conducts regular reviews of CQA accounts, projects, and budget performance, and develops adjustment plans for subsequent fiscal years as required. Communications and Stakeholder Engagement: Leads and participates in the planning and delivery of orientation sessions and workshops for faculty and staff involved in PPRs and curriculum development; prepares and reviews curriculum management, development, and review documents, manuals, and related communications, including memos and urgent updates; leads the planning and implementation of events, presentations, and conferences related to CQA to promote awareness, consistency, and continuous improvement across the university. HR Management: Manages and supervises staff, assigns and prioritises tasks, establishes goals, sets expectations and evaluates performance; hires, trains, develops and performance manages assigned staff; monitors performance and provides feedback to staff on performance. Provides clarity of roles, responsibilities and accountabilities to staff. Qualifications Completion of a Doctoral degree in a discipline relevant to undergraduate programs offered by TMU. A minimum of 5 years of relevant senior leadership experience (Director‑level or equivalent) in a post‑secondary environment, focused on curriculum governance, academic program review or institutional quality assurance. Experience in curriculum development, curricular policy analysis, application, and interpretation of quality assurance frameworks (e.g., IQAP/QFA) in a university or college setting; experience supervising staff in a unionized environment. Strong working knowledge of Quality Assurance Framework, processes, and requirements governing universities in the Province of Ontario or other relevant jurisdictions. Ability to engage with institution‑wide governance committees (e.g., Senate, program review, curriculum committees) and manage relationships with multiple stakeholders across faculties and administrative units. Strong working knowledge of curriculum development principles, active learning methodologies, and theories of learning in an academic setting. Familiarity with digital learning tools and their integration in academic program delivery and assessment. Demonstrated expertise in managing or overseeing budgets and resource allocation in an academic or administrative unit. Demonstrated ability working directly with faculty, staff, and students in the context of curriculum development, program review, or academic policy implementation. Proven ability to plan, lead, and implement complex, multi‑stakeholder projects within defined timelines and budgets. Relevant academic and administrative skills developed through work experience in the university or college sectors as an educator. Advanced analytical reasoning, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities to assess data, identify issues, and recommend solutions. Superior oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively.
