Overview As Manulife increases reliance on third‑parties for products and services, the company’s exposure to risks related to delivery, disruption, and security grows. Understanding these risk factors and identifying weaknesses in internal third‑party management controls is crucial. Key Responsibilities Define and maintain Manulife’s third‑party risk framework, standards and controls. Provide oversight and challenge in evaluating risks related to information security, business continuity/disaster recovery, regulatory and technological aspects introduced by third‑parties, ensuring adequate enterprise controls. Design processes and build tools to support third‑party risk identification and management. Conduct research on industry trends, events and best practices. Help develop and maintain the global third‑party risk management framework, standards and controls under the direction of the AVP. Participate in oversight and challenge of first‑line outputs (exit plans, onboarding, risk assessment activities). Provide expert consultation, deliver training, and deliver high‑quality insights. Support standardization and automation strategy by researching best practices related to assessment processes and tools. Implement and maintain the third‑party risk and control register. Advise on investigations of material loss events caused by third‑parties and ensure corrective action. Consolidate and report key risk indicators and metrics for enterprise and divisional risk reporting. Champion cultural embedding of third‑party risk management and standards across Manulife. Collaborate with procurement, sourcing, global and divisional information services, privacy, compliance, operational risk and audit to build an integrated view of third‑party exposures. Support development of materials and presentations. Accountabilities The Director will report to the AVP, Operational Resilience and assist in delivering a comprehensive third‑party risk management program. The role is part of the second line of defence and works across business teams including Procurement, Vendor Governance, Legal, Compliance, Information Risk 2nd line and segment teams. Job Requirements (Experience/Knowledge/Skills) University degree in Technology, Business, Risk Management, Auditing or related discipline. 3‑7 years of progressive experience in third‑party management. Hands‑on experience developing third‑party risk policies, standards and controls. Direct experience implementing, executing or maintaining a third‑party risk management program in a large multinational financial institution. Performed third‑party risk and control assessments and performance assessments. Preferable oversight and effective challenge experience (second line of defence). Track record in process improvement and design. Demonstrated leadership and ability to work independently. Excellent communication skills, including presentation skills at all organisational levels. Innovative problem‑solving skills and judgment in dynamic environments. Strong interpersonal skills, sensitivity and professionalism across cultures. Strong influence and negotiation skills, ability to achieve consensus in decentralised settings. Results oriented, capable of managing multiple priorities within tight deadlines. Flexibility to accommodate global project schedules, including off‑hour calls and domestic/international travel as required. Strong time management and organisational skills.
