Continuous quality and safety improvement are inherent in this role. The MHSU Access & Crisis Response Counsellor, under the guidance of the Clinical Coordinator, operates within organizational standards and a harm reduction, recovery-focused model. The role involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team and collaborating with community agencies to provide triage, immediate support, assessment, urgent clinical response, harm reduction, short-term psychotherapy/stabilization, resource exploration, and client needs assessment. Participation in planning for services to adults with mental health and addiction issues is required. Travel may be necessary, and transportation arrangements must meet VIHA operational requirements, possibly including the use of a personal vehicle and a valid BC Driver's License. Qualifications Education, Training, and Experience Baccalaureate Degree in a health-related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution. Recognized post-basic education related to mental illness and/or addiction; two (2) years' recent experience in crisis intervention, risk assessment, or similar environments. Knowledge of mental health, addiction issues, legislation such as the Mental Health Act, Child Protection legislation, and the Adult Guardianship Act is required. Valid BC Driver's License. Skills and Abilities Competence in treating addiction and mental illness within a rehabilitation/recovery, harm reduction framework. Strong interpersonal and clinical skills, including crisis intervention, stabilization, de-escalation, and brief psychotherapy. Organizational, problem-solving, and teaching skills. Judgment, observation, client assessment, tact, and empathy. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with at-risk clients professionally and effectively. Teamwork and conflict resolution skills. Ability to promote positive change and independence. Workload prioritization and organization skills. Proficiency with Windows-based software and office equipment. This role is for the Single Session Walk-in Service at the Western Communities MHSU HUB, primarily providing brief solution-focused counseling for same-day appointments, including assessment and referral to specialized services. #J-18808-Ljbffr
