Technical Director, CANDU Field Services AtkinsRéalis invites applications for the Technical Director, CANDU Field Services role. Overview AtkinsRéalis is one of Canada’s largest private sector nuclear engineering groups. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, the CFS Technical Director plays a pivotal strategic and technical leadership role in advancing our Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) capabilities. Your role Strategic Leadership & Capability Development Champion growth and modernization of CFS capabilities, aligning with long‑term OEM strategies. Lead development of advanced nuclear service tooling and field execution practices. Ensure department sized to meet current and future demands. Drive succession planning, talent development, and knowledge transfer. Inspection Services and Regulatory Compliance Maintain Inspection Qualification and Service Provider (ISP) status for CANDU Field Services programs, in accordance with CAN/CSA N285.4 and ASME Section XI, Appendix VIII. Collaborate with Operations to expand ISP status to other areas. Ensure compliance with CSA CAN3‑N299.0 and applicable standards. Organizational Culture & Performance Promote strong nuclear safety culture using INPO 14‑005 and INPO 12‑012 principles. Ensure training programs and qualification records meet CSA CAN3 N299.0 requirements. Encourage ownership of goals and continuous improvement in engineering practices. Directly oversee CFS Technical Managers and align with objectives. Implement performance metrics to monitor team effectiveness. Inspire culture of ownership, accountability, and excellence. Industry Engagement & Brand Visibility Strengthen relationships with key customers and stakeholders through regular engagement and customer site visits. Represent CFS at industry conferences, technical forums, and knowledge‑sharing events. Support STEM outreach and public education initiatives to elevate the CANDU brand. Operational & Technical Oversight Oversee departmental budgets, resource planning, and financial performance. Ensure adherence to engineering governance, quality assurance, and customer standards. Develop and maintain engineering procedures and best practices. About You Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university, in a core engineering discipline. Professional Engineer, licensed in a Canadian province and/or a U.S. state, and member in good standing. Minimum 18 years of engineering project delivery experience, including: 12+ years in engineering/design roles. 5+ years in leadership or management. 1+ year of site‑based project experience. Strong understanding of nuclear plant systems, operations, and regulatory frameworks. Expertise in inspection qualification, welding, NDE, robotics, and tooling design for FME and EQ parameters. Knowledge of CSA N285.4 and ASME Section XI Appendix VII requirements for ISP and Inspection Qualification programs. Demonstrated credibility and networks within the nuclear industry, especially with CANDU stakeholders. Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a high‑performance environment. Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and project planning skills. Effectively lead a knowledge‑based, multi‑discipline engineering team; mentor and coach staff; engage in succession and talent planning. Periodic travel to project sites and customer locations as required. Security clearance is a condition of employment.
