The Opportunity

The opportunity to serve as the Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) at Deep River and District Health is an enticing proposition for potential candidates. As a member of the Executive Team, the CNE will collaborate with key clinical and operational partners to shape the strategic direction of the hospital and implement innovative practices that advance person-centred care. Additionally, the CNE will have the opportunity to foster a culture of excellence, promote collaboration among staff, and provide operational leadership to enhance patient care. Mandate

Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) will provide vision and strategic direction for the clinical and professional practice portfolio. As a member of the Executive Team, the CNE will actively support the strategic direction of the organization, guiding current and long-range goals and objectives of the organization.


As the CNE you will lead the development and implementation of a strategy, support excellence in patient and resident care and advance professional clinical practice. In addition, you will effectively plan and direct care programs in response to the identified needs of internal and external business partners.


Key Accountabilities

The position will include the following responsibilities:


Leadership

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the long-term strategy, goals, and objectives for clinical services and professional practice. Drive innovation and promote excellence in patient care.
  • Vision and Innovation: Develop and carry forward a vision for nursing and clinical programs in alignment with the organization's vision, mission, and values. Drive innovation and implement new processes to meet strategic plans.
  • Strategic Planning and Oversight: Provide strategic operational leadership and oversight to assigned clinical programs and services.


Building Relationships

  • Leadership and Team Development: Provide leadership and mentorship to clinical staff. Support professional growth and development opportunities. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Collaboration and Relationship Building: Foster strong relationships with physicians, staff, and external partners. Encourage teamwork and collaboration among clinical and support services staff.
  • Advocacy and Promotion: Advocate for the advancement of professional practice, patient safety, and person-centred care at all levels within the organization and in external partnerships. Promote evidence-based decision-making and best practices.
  • Public Relations: Represent the organization externally through networking and committee memberships.


Administration

  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with current legislation, regulatory requirements, and Canadian Accreditation Standards. Identify and mitigate risks related to patient care and operational processes.
  • Financial Management: Assist with the preparation of annual departmental budgets and ensure cost containment within approved budgets for areas of responsibility.
  • Reporting and Communication: Effectively communicate with the Executive Team, Board of Directors, and other team members. Provide regular reports on the operations of the organization and participate in meetings and committees as required.
  • Operational Management: Provide leadership and oversight to ensure the effective and efficient use of resources. Direct and manage care programs, ensuring quality and risk management.


Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have the following:


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required.
  • Master’s degree in nursing, MBA, or master’s in health services is preferred.
  • Certified Health Executive (CHE) certification is preferred.
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.


Experience:

  • Demonstrated leadership, supervision, and delegation skills.
  • 5-7 years of progressive management and professional experience in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Experience in primary care or long-term care, is considered an asset.
  • Experience in quality improvement, risk management, and enhancing clinical processes.


Competencies and Attributes:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Public Hospitals Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Fixing Long-Term Care Act, and Excellent Care for All legislation.
  • Proven ability to coach and train with an understanding of adult learning principles.
  • Knowledge of current trends in healthcare and organizational procurement models, legislation, and best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional leadership abilities and a demonstrated passion for engaging employees and promoting a supportive and productive work culture.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with a variety of individuals, including patients, residents, families, employees, and community partners.
