Director, Commercial Banking (Corporate Finance Group) Location: Toronto, Ontario or Ottawa, Ontario. Team Overview The Corporate Finance team within Canadian Commercial Banking is part of BMO Financial Group and covers both public and large private corporate clients operating in diversified industries. The team manages and monitors large commercial loan portfolios, supports credit requirements, and cross‑sells other products such as subordinated debt, equipment leasing, derivatives, cash management, and trade finance. The team assesses financing opportunities of $25,000,000 or more on a syndicated and bilateral basis. Job Overview The Director manages a commercial lending portfolio, supports origination of new clients, and coordinates with product teams to maintain strong client relationships. The role facilitates growth initiatives, business development, and cross‑selling. Job Description Prepares credit recommendations regarding risk, deal structure, and client requirements by analyzing financial and operational data of new and existing clients. Directly manages the annual review process, interim reviews, specified quarterly reports and resolution of exceptions. Manages the risk of the assigned complex portfolio in a timely and precise manner. Leads and executes business development plans for clients. Acts as a key contact to clients on credit‑related questions and develops strong relationships. Provides research and data gathering to facilitate solutions to client needs. Participates in sales activities such as pitch preparation, client research, and preparation of prospect and client files. Coordinates service administration and processing to ensure seamless client experience. Makes recommendations to senior leaders on strategy and new initiatives based on in‑depth business understanding. Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues. Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements, and develops roadmap for strategic execution. Maintains accurate documentation and ensures adherence to policies and overall bank safety. Applies expertise and creative problem‑solving to complex or ambiguous situations. Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed. Qualifications Seasoned professional with relevant education, experience, and industry knowledge. Master’s or MBA degree (finance, accounting, economics, or related field) with 3‑5 years of relevant experience, or an undergraduate degree with 5‑7 years of relevant experience. A CPA, CBV, CFA or other relevant professional designation or advanced degree (ongoing or completed) is an asset. Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with a focus on financial, accounting, data, and statistical analysis. Excellent computer literacy with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Excellent verbal & written communication skills. Excellent collaboration and team skills. Excellent negotiation skills with clients and legal counsel. Strong organizational and time‑management skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Salary $86,000.00 – $160,000.00 (salaried). Variations are based on location, skills, experience, and may include a commission structure.
