Part of a team of eye care providers, ophthalmic medical technologists assist ophthalmologists, gathering information and preparing reports They do preliminary work such as taking patient histories, and prepare patients for procedures, ensuring specialized ophthalmic equipment is properly assembled, cleaned, or maintained. Ophthalmic medical technologist certification Gather and report information to the ophthalmologist, including taking patient histories, conducting eye measurements, performing diagnostic testing, and ophthalmic imaging such as photography and ultrasounds Conduct tests and evaluations such as eye pressure, pupil reactions, vision assessment and colour vision tests Use electrodiagnostic testing to assess eyes (retinal, optic nerve, brain function) Administer medications and assist in minor ophthalmic procedures Make a Difference Provide education and reassurance to patients to put them at ease Help patients and opthalmologists get accurate diagnoses Maintain cleanliness and hygiene to prevent bacterial spread and eye infections Prepare patients for eye tests and procedures to address or manage eye issues Be part of the team that improves or recovers patients’ vision Interact directly with patients Work with ophthalmologists and other medical/healthcare staff Work in a variety of settings including hospitals and eye clinics No endorsement of any products or services is expressed or implied.
