Brampton, Canada Socomec Group Full time

Overview The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in simulation, hardware design, and testing, with a strong background in high-power conversion systems. This role requires a thorough understanding of PCBA design, converter topologies (AC/DC, AC/AC, DC/AC—both two-level and multilevel), as well as advanced switching and control techniques. The successful candidate will drive the design, certification, and testing of power electronic systems while leveraging cutting-edge simulation tools to model, optimize, and validate component and system-level performance. Responsibilities Simulation Modeling: Develop and implement simulation models using MATLAB/Simulink, PSpice, PSCAD, PSIM, and other relevant tools to accurately represent power electronic systems and components. Advanced Control Design: Engineer advanced control strategies for multilevel inverters targeting high-performance applications, including large-scale UPS and Energy Storage Systems (ESS). HIL Testing: Conduct Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing using real-time simulation platforms such as OPAL-RT and Typhoon HIL to ensure seamless integration and system validation. PCBA Development: Design and optimize printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) using Altium Designer, ensuring reliable and high-efficiency circuit performance. High-Power Test Execution: Develop and carry out detailed test plans for high-capacity UPS systems (~3 MVA), covering functional, performance, reliability, and safety verification in compliance with regulatory standards. Power Module Engineering: Evaluate, design, and characterize IGBT-based power modules, optimizing for efficiency, reliability, and thermal performance. Converter Design: Design and analyze a broad range of converter topologies (AC/AC, AC/DC, DC/AC, DC/DC), including their controllers and modulation strategies, filters, gate drivers, etc. Standards Compliance: Ensure all design and development efforts adhere to applicable industry standards such as UL1778, UL60950, UL1008, IEC 62040, FCC Part 15, and so on. Root Cause Analysis: Diagnose and resolve technical issues in power electronics systems using simulation and analytical techniques to identify and implement effective solutions. Innovation & Continuous Learning: Stay current with emerging trends in power electronics and simulation technologies. Integrate innovative techniques to enhance product performance and reliability. Documentation & Reporting: Generate clear, detailed technical reports and presentations to communicate modeling methodologies, test outcomes, and key insights to internal and external stakeholders. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred). At least 7 years of industrial experience in power electronics design and simulation. Strong expertise in modeling and simulation of power converters and inverters across a range of applications. In-depth knowledge of high-power systems such as converters, UPS, STS, ESS, and their control architectures. Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, PSpice, PSCAD, PSIM, and equivalent simulation tools. Hands-on experience with magnetic component design (transformers, inductors, chokes, filters, etc.). Analytical skills to interpret simulation outcomes and translate them into actionable designs. Familiarity with digital control methods, microcontroller systems, and embedded firmware development. Experience with communication protocols relevant to power system integration. Solid understanding of hardware design fundamentals and collaborative cross-functional development. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work both independently and within multi-disciplinary teams. Hands-on experience with COMSOL for multiphysics simulation, including thermal and electromagnetic modeling. Proficiency in creating and maintaining schematics using EPLAN Electric. Familiarity with battery management systems (BMS), energy storage solutions, and renewable energy technologies. Experience with design optimization, including thermal analysis, reliability engineering, and cost-performance trade-offs. Upon request, we will provide reasonable accommodation for disabilities to support participation of candidates in all aspects of the recruitment process. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex or national origin. We thank all those who apply. However, only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. #J-18808-Ljbffr
