Overview Adult Literacy Coach (Lead Program) at Foundations Learning and Skills / Volunteer Success. On-Site, Ongoing Opportunity. 30 Openings. Volunteers work with adult learners one-on-one and in small groups to enhance literacy skills. All training is provided, with ongoing support from the Adult Literacy Coordinator throughout the program. What you’ll be doing Work with adult participants to identify current skills, and help enhance those skills by providing tools, resources, and encouragement. Coaches meet one-on-one with their learner either in-person at a public library or over Zoom. The weekly schedule is determined by what is convenient for the learner and coach. You will be provided with comprehensive literacy training and templates/materials to plan sessions. After training, you will be matched with a learner according to needs, expertise, and availability. You will start with a detailed Learning Plan and receive suggestions and resources. Plan weekly sessions based on the Learning Plan, training, and learner interests and skill levels. Foundations’ staff will support you in all aspects of coaching. Our program is learner-centred and strength-based with no fixed curriculum; activities are based on the learner’s goals. Learners may seek to improve reading/writing, prepare for a driver’s test, or earn their GED. Feedback from volunteers and learners is welcomed. The Coordinator will stay in regular contact to offer support and gather feedback.
