Finance Officer – Government of Nunavut Reporting to the Manager, Revenue Operations, Finance Officers provide accounting services such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue operations, analyses, reports, financial advice and support to clients, and other assigned administration duties, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), financial and applicable legislation, policies, procedures, control processes and collective agreements, to ensure quality financial and client services, in accordance with the financial and service goals of the Government of Nunavut (GN). Finance Officers impact the quality of assigned accounting services provided for the assigned Department(s). This impacts timely and correct payments to employees and suppliers, the secure handling and deposit of revenues, accurate financial reports for management decision making at the Department level, and the reputation of the Department and the GN internally and externally. The coordination of department-wide financial requirements impacts the quality of system-wide financial documentation and operations. Finance Officers provide financial expertise and deliver department-wide training to departmental employees on the correct interpretation and application of financial legislation, policy, processes, and collective agreements. They also provide updates to the Manager, and recommendations on methods for handling accounting, financial and administrative issues. This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Iqaluit only. The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually acquired through a college diploma in a related field from a recognized institution, plus minimum two (2) years of relevant finance experience in a computerized environment, plus experience in providing advisory services to clients. The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in two or more of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets. Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
