As a Building Official, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the safety and integrity of our built environment while enjoying a lifestyle surrounded by nature and adventure. About the Role Reporting to the Supervisor, Building Officials, this position is responsible for reviewing building and plumbing permit applications, conducting site inspections, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, bylaws, and standards. You’ll provide technical guidance to contractors and consultants, investigate complaints and violations, and issue permits and enforcement notices. This role also contributes to departmental process improvements and supports special projects aimed at modernizing permitting and inspection services. What We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will hold BOABC Certification or a Journeyman Certificate in plumbing or carpentry and be prepared to enter the BOABC “Building Official in Training” program within three months of employment. You’ll bring at least five years of journeyman experience, strong knowledge of the National Building and Plumbing Codes, and effective public relations and report-writing skills. A valid Class 5 Yukon driver’s license and completion of First Aid/CPR and conflict resolution training within the first year are required.
